The Royal Belgian Sport Horse Society, better known as Stud-Book sBs, is now available to North American breeders. Most famously a jumper registry, it includes stallions such as Baloubet de Rouet, Cardento, Kannan, Nabab de Reve, Toulon and Vigo d'Arsouilles in it's breeding roster.

At the 2010 70 day stallion test, two Belgian judges traveled to Silver Creek Farm and approved the following stallions for the sBs:

Apiro
Belafonte d’ Avalon
Colorado Skrodstrup
Color Guard
Contiano BF
Figaro B
Galante HU
Parlay S
Ramzes SF

All stallions approved by one of the three registries in Belgium (BWP, sBs and Zangersheide) are eligible to produce sBs foals according to Belgian Agricultural law. Stallions approved by registries that are full members of the WBFSH are also eligible to produce sBs offspring. sBs foal registration is currently available in North America - contact stavisky@thegateway.net for information and forms.

Apiro and Figaro B are approved stallions, so they seem to like hunters just fine.

Mares approved by registries that are WBFSH members do not have to be represented (or JC mares). Also, per Belgian ag. law sBs, BWP and Z are reciprocal.

Exciting! I tried to read through the English version of their pages, although some of them looked like they were translated by computer.... didn't quite make sense.

I've heard good things about the registry and its arrival in the US seems to be at a time when lots of people are looking elsewhere for various reasons! I hope to see the registry growing stronger in the US!

Are mare and foal inspections mandatory? If so, how many inspections sites will there be? Always a chicken and egg thing. Hard to obligate onself to an inspection not knowing if there even be an inspection in one's region.

You breed a studbook mare from an approved registry to an SBS approved stallion, and the foal gets SBS papers.

If it is to be breeding stock, then it goes to an inspection eventually?

I do like inspections for breeding stock, no question.

Just out of curiosity...
What will this registry offer to North American breeders for North American breeders and who will be running the NA version?
Is this going to be another European registry that takes money from N/A breeders back to Europe and offers pink papers in return?

Is is affiliated with the BWP/NAD and the same people there?

The sBs is not affiliated with BWP/NAD. The registry offers registration that is recognized in Belgium, with timely processing of papers. The registry also accepts the 70 day stallion test for stallion performance (as well as sport). I'm on an iPhone right now but would be happy to answer specific questions later via email
