    Default Sentinel

Just wondering if anyone on here uses the Blue Seal grain line called Sentinel, specifically the LS? Do you like or dislike, and why, BS rep has recommended this for the ulcer prone horse, but its pricey at almost 18.00 per bag

    Thanks!

I feed the Sentinel LS to all the TBs/hard keepers here and really like it. It is around $16.50/bag in upstate NY, which is more expensive than the BS CarbGuard at $13.00 BUT it is an extruded pellet (easier to eat/digest) and the horses dig right in to it. High in fat, low in NSC.

I feed Sentinel senior to my 3 horses, love the feed. It is the extrusion that makes it easier to digest.

I dislike it, but I know some people are quite fond of it. My primary issue is that it weighs so little, you have to feed such a large volume of it to get the job done. Some horses get overwhelmed by it.

Love the stuff... I've been feeding it since it came out. My 30-year old TB looks amazing - it's high in fat and I find that I don't have to feed much of it (as compared to their Sentinel Sr feed which is much lower in fat - my OTTB mare is on the Sr and I love that stuff too). Just remember to feed by weight and not volume - it's an extruded feed so the "pellets" are much larger than your typical pellet. I do soak mine as my old guy will choke on pretty much anything... it makes a great "mash" when hot water is added... my guy slurps it up in no time at all (also a great way to get extra water into them) .

So I know this is an old thread but I have an EXTREMELY sensitive Friesian Sporthorse gelding who I have found can only eat the Sentinel LS feed and not end up high as a kite (or as my trainer likes to call it "rhoid rage")
I have a problem though, the local tack store that carried it here in the Raleigh area closed and this has me driving 45 minutes away to get feed every month (which I don't mind) but rumor is, BS is not going to continue to distribute the Sentinel LS in NC because its not as popular here as up north.

Does anyone know of a feed that is comparable to the LS? The low NSC's and comparable ingredients.
He can't have rice bran (of any kind...found that out the hard way)

Any advice/help would be very much appreciated

WHAT?! According to my leased horse's owner, the Sentinel LS Performance is literally the only thing that will keep any weight on her. Well, that, and a combo of Nutrena Empower, oil, and really good alfalfa mixed hay.... Crossing all my fingers and toes that the rumor you heard is false...
