    Default The Rose Parade

Is there any cable channel that actually focusses on the equestrian units for more than five split seconds on their way to show yet another marching band? I love the Rose Parade, and would watch it even if there wasn't a single horse in it, but I get incredibly frustrated when they are there, but we can't see them.

We are going to watch RFD TV this year to see if they cover the equestrian events better than traditional tv.

We usually watch the coverage with Bob Eubanks & Stephanie Edwards, as Bob Eubanks is a horseman.

    That's fantastic!
A previous slide on the fb page mentions watching for "Save the Mustangs" in the 20111 Rose Parade.

I usually watch it on one of the Spanish language stations. Telemundo, I think. They do a good job of covering the parade.

HGTV in the states. Usually picks up the LA local KTLA teleacast with lifelong horseman Bob Eubanks and it has been Stepanie Edwards as "color" commentor She is up on the flowers and other organic float covering materials.

They at least TRY to stay away from the crap puns, self agrandisments and upcoming program plugs. Or have in the past.

HGTV at 11 EST. Has been single sponser and commercial free in past years.

Like I said, they TRY. Or have in the past. Not perfect. But better then the dreck and drivel of the broadcast networks as the parade goes by behind them as they prattle on...and on...and on...about themselves.

Great! I can't get RFD TV, so it looks like HGTV is it. Now, I'm really looking forward to the parade.

We'll be channel surfing between RFD-TV & HGTV.

If they are picking up the KTLA coverage, they are doing much better than they have in the past on the equestrian units - even for them. They are staying on them and giving equal time. Guess the past shout outs from all of us have been working. Also note far less cars for the "celebs" and more carriages being pulled by Friesians. This is a good thing.

Err, listings were wrong...Hallmark Channel has Bob and Stepanie and the KTLA telecast this year from a spot right after the corner and they are doing their usual Emmy winning commentary. That was listed as Al R and some celeb or other that talk over everything so I never considered mentioning it.

Reruns on Hallmark at 1pm EST. Commercial free.

HGTV now has in house commentary and a spot right at the beginning of the parade before they turn the corner. Doing a pretty good job of including everybody if a bit too much promotion for the Dream House. But there are no other commercials so that's Ok.

For those who, like me, are cable-free, KTLA is streaming online:

Agree, they're doing an awesome job w/ the horses!!

Watching it on KTLA as I do every year. It's usually pretty good coverage of the equestrian groups. And they replay it all day long in case you miss any of it!

I have Dish-TV and used to get RFD-TV and now I can't get it either.

I do get some Horse-TV programming on channel 404.

    Default Reports on coverge

So, let's have some reports on how the different channels actually did on coverage. I started out with HGTV, but I thought they did a poor job covering the equestrian units. They often went to their correspondent along the route when there were horses on camera. They also didn't tell you very much about each unit.

I switched to NBC and must say they did a better job of covering the equestrian units. I'm interested in hearing how RFD-TV and Hallmark covered the parade. Gotta plan for next year!!!

    Happy New Year everybody!!!

I'm watching it on Hallmark right now, and the cameras are remaining on the parade virtually full time except for commercials. Eubanks' commentary is reasonably intelligent, but the woman is one step above idiocy. She asked something about controlled prancing when a circus-themed group was passing, and when looking at a drill team dressed as mermaids, referred to fish-like horses. That even threw Eubanks. Perhaps she was fishing for hippocampus.

It is a step above the network type of coverage in which the commentators spend more time on camera, and coverage of the event is purely secondary.
