Thumbs up West Virginia (HMER) horses update

Days End Farm has been posting regular photo updates on Facebook for the WV8 (now 7) regularly. While I've looked at new photos of the horses as they were posted, I never sat down and spent 5 minutes going from beginning to current. It is staggering to look at how those horses were when they arrived, and how much they have changed in the last three months.

    Merry Christmas, WV horses!

(I don't know if the link will work if you're not on Facebook.)

The link worked for me, though I'm on FB

It's wonderful to see how well they're looking now! Flipping through that album it was really easy to see what a dramatic change they've gone though.

Shocking shocking pictures. More shocking is that they saved 7 out of 8.

Even Mr IHF was speechless and he usually wouldn't have taken a second look. By the time I flipped through all of the pics I was crying.

    Does anyone know the backstory?

IHF, search for Off Course threads on Hidden Meadows for the backstory. There are two, from Sept./Oct. of this year.

HMER received $130,014 in 2009 donations in a return signed on 05/01/2010.

WTF did they DO with that $130,000?
Michael: Seems the people who burned me want me for a job.
Sam: A job? Does it pay?
Michael: Nah, it's more of a "we'll kill you if you don't do it" type of thing.
Sam: Oh. I've never liked those.

How much snow do you have this morning, rescuemom?

We've been following the progress of the WV7 since they arrive at DEFHR. It's a heartening way to start each morning.

If anyone's looking for a rescue to help, DEF should be at the top of their list.

Frank, there was less than 1" this morning. It's been snowing virtually all day since then and I think it might be up to 1.5" now. I love that aspect of TN.

Zodiac amazes me every day. What incredible heart he has.

IMHO, it's all on the honor system......it could have been $160,000.

I'm not sure to what lengths the IRS goes to verify 501c3 donations. Do they record itemized 1040 offerings?

Nor, am I sure if Paypal, Visa, or Mastercard, etc. volunteer an aggregate. Fiscal years can run odd months. I guess they could if a financial forensics process is triggered.

Is there a '990' COTH thread?

Anyway, that was one crummy 990 HMER submmitted. Four pages of............

I'm usually with those who say 'put that horse down and use the money it would take to save that one to save 3, or 4'... but looking at those pics of Zodiac romping makes it hard to get the words out. Truly wonderful.

I hope all those who malign DEF over the Marsha Parkinson horses look at what they did for Zodiac and realize that DEF can work miracles to fix what others caused, but it takes donations

It was a real thrill to see him kick up his heels like that. He is 11 years old. His racing name is Rhythmic Moves.
