coloredcowhorse - that video was new to me, too. Very moving - tears abound.
Tks for posting it though!
It played during the Super Bowl that almost wasn't...the one right after 9/11 when there was debate whether or not to have the game at all. As far as I know that is the only time it ran commercially. I missed the game...working....but did see it on one of the morning talk shows and then didn't see it again for a long time. Someone sent the youtube link and I have it marked now. Sure would love to watch the training that goes into these horses....a lot of the commercials are obviously well trained but probably have hours of filming and editing to get those 30 second spots just right. But an 8 in hand team all doing a bow....that is just awesome...and to have done it in the 3 months time between 9/11 and the game.
After looking at this wonderful video again, I think the bow is actually through the magic of cgi - one horse multiplied 8 times. It's too perfectly coordinated and identical.
It would also be darn scary with all the possibilities for hanging up your bridle on the single trees or getting something else wadded up.
It is still a great and sad video.
In the book, "The Western Horse," one of the participants interviewed was the man who trained the Clydes for the football team commercials. The horse who learned to put his foot up on the ball was very proud of his trick, and when the man saw him again a year or so later, he whistled and the horse picked up his foot, just as he had for his trick.
I know that many of the things in the commercials are not real, or based on fact, or even, in some cases, actually possible at all. But I love every one of those commercials, and always watch the super bowl just to see the latest Bud ad. And I don't drink beer.....
