lindasp62, what is the Brennan fund up to lately? I am originally from Montgomery (not far from Montgomery Inn, in fact).

I am now seeing the cumulative effects of time and circumstances concerning the economy. I have been getting an amplified amount of calls concerning whole herds that have been neglected by their owners due to the inability to provide basic care. Often these get turned over to Animal Control, but I have been able to use resources and contacts to help provide hay, veterinary care, and arrange new owners for these horses. A lot of the rescue facilities that would normally take in such horses can't, because of being at capacity or low on funding. I find that it is best to attempt to find homes for needy horses a "step" earlier not only to ease the load on the facilities, but also arrange an equine companion to be placed with someone who is willing and able to take the responsibility. All this is outside of the normal parameters of the organization, which is grant making. However, as grant requests to BEWF have also increased, donations are still needed at this critical time in horse rescue.

One recent grant was an "emergency grant" to Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Maryland. Fifty three horses were impounded from West Virginia, a severe case of neglect and abuse. Days End Farm originally took in 8, but sadly one didn't make it. They arrived with their ribs showing, weakness, rain rot, and over grown hooves. The horses that were too weak to stand on their own were placed in a sling to help them support their body weight. One horse only recently got out of the sling as his condition was quite serious with multiple complications.

Was just in Montgomery today! It is quite busy and decorated for the holidays. It is quite festive looking. At night it is so pretty as they have lights on all the trees that line the main drag there by Montgomery Inn.

Can't get there from Haiti even if Delta did restart flights today. But I'm online. I do intend to show up with the wither tracings in January, though.

Drat! Everything I need, I need to test sizes on rather than just guessing. I'll have to wait until the week of Jan 17th to go in person.

Show the store owner this thread and let them know the rescue day apparently just won them a saddle sale! I see my top 2 or 3 choices in their online stock lists, and the prices are the same as the other store I was looking at.

There's more selection in the store than is listed on the website, correct?

LOTS more instore than online. Awesome saddle selection. A whole room of saddles, both used and new.

Be sure to mention me and Brennan Equine Welfare Fund when you go in January. No special day like today, but they will be happy to know we are all networking together!

    p.s. it was a great day! :-)
