Don't break up the band Yoko!

That's what always pops into my head now when I see ToTo with the new guy. At any rate he looks happy and I just love this horse so will continue to watch and root for him, but still loved him with Edward.

I know I couldn't ride one side of him no matter how "easy" he looks.

Thank you very much for the video. I have seen Mathias ride many times over the past few years. His horses are beautifully trained and ridden. He seems to be a kind and modest young man despite his quite priviledged upbringing. He is a credit to his family and to the German team. Of course he is completely adorable and babyfaced but that is beside the point. I am very excited for Schockemohle. He is truly a patron of dressage and jumping sport of the highest level. The US should be so lucky to have such a wealthy and visible sponsor in our sport. Most wealthy US owners are not quite so front and center, nor do they possess his personal achievements in their given sport. If so maybe the popularity of dressage would improve, who knows. But I am thrilled that he obviously has such deep personal feelings for this horse. He has clearly fallen under Totilas' spell and is very fortunate that he was able to buy him for his country and himself. It's very apparent that he is a shrewd business man and the horse is a good investment. But make no mistake, he is completely smitten with that horse!!! Who wouldn't be!!!!

Miss Dior - Great post, I agree completely. And though Rath has a new level of pressure that he probably didn't ever think about 6 months ago, he looks like a lovely rider; it was nice to see all the pats. And I agree that PS is smitten....

Edited to add: I do think they should lose the browband...I'm a fan of more subtle bling myself.

    Agree, Miss Dior.

Matthias may make more mistakes in competition than Gal, and therefore not score as well, that wouldn't surprise me. He always seems to look fairly overwhelmed and nervous just before he enters the ring. But he doesn't seem like the kind of rider who will get upset at his horse or himself.

Overall, the credit goes to the horse. How willing and sweet he is. Not every horse Gal has trained has this personality, which isn't a negative against Gal, just to point out that this horse is an amazing individual.

Wow...that is the most through I've ever seen that horse look. He was also much more up and open in his neck...possibly that is why. Lovely riding and I like Totilas much better ridden that way.

Don't think Matthias is a "bad" rider (far from it, he is a very good rider, IMHO) but he is no Edward Gal. I can't imagine the pressure he is under taking on the record breaking Toto, but I bet he's learning TONS.

But I concure that I'm glad Toto looks great and seems happy.

Edward Gal wasn't Edward Gal at that age. I think they look like a nice pair getting to know one another.

    Thank you.

Quite frankly, I think people are being hard on him because they're being overly emotional about Gal and Totilas being "torn apart". Gag. If only any one of you were judged so harshly next time you go for a lesson on a schoolmaster.

Well, I think this little whippersnapper is doing a mighty fine job on ToTo. Let's face it, Gall/ToTo is a hard act to follow BUT I think this kid can do it. He is a lovely rider and the horse seems quite content in this vid.

I have to ask though, what type of wraps is he wearing. It looks like there is another wrap under the outer one. So, what is the first wrap and what is the wrap over that?

Mike, as always, thanks for posting all the stuff you post for us to check out. Much appreciated.

I'm certainly not a dressage rider, nor do I know that much. But the horse seemed relaxed and free in his movements. I know it was not a competition, so maybe that's a difference, but I really thought that was a nice ride. He certainly is extravagant.
