I know that its cold here in the midwest over the winter months (specifically Iowa), but I would love to keep my skills up by competing in some schooling shows. I just moved out here a couple of months ago and I don't know much about the industry out here. Does anyone know of schooling shows in Area 4? I don't mind driving a bit to get to one. Thanks so much
Things may be better in Iowa than in your northern neighbors, but one of the big problems here is that it is difficult to have both a competition ring and a warmup ring indoors at the same venue. And without two rings, it is quite difficult for riders to really provide a meaningful presentation so difficult to get meaningful feedback from a dressage judge.
I know some people who find that show jumper classes (low level) are a good winter activity to prepare for the coming season's stadium classes.
Do take a look at the calendar of www.CSDEA.org and see if there are any activities that suit you listed there. These are mostly within the range of a few hours drive from central Iowa.
