I enjoyed Shirreffs interviews very much, loved the second article linked. He made some pointed but diplomatic comments. Loved the idea that we should have celebrated both Zenyatta and RA rather than trying to make media-produced "rivals" of them:
On whether there was any disappointment on the retirement of Rachel Alexandra before she could race Zenyatta:
“I thought the racing industry lost a huge opportunity last year when they had a great filly on the East Coast and a great mare on the West Coast and they didn’t celebrate both of them; instead they pitted one against the other. I think they made a huge mistake.
“But I didn’t go there with that that; I can’t say it bothered me or didn’t bother me.”

On his reaction when Rachel Alexandra was retired:
“I didn’t have a reaction. I think it’s best for me to stay out of other people’s business.”
I think I love him! :-)

This time she's all in, hoping for one last bit of magic. Shirreffs said her legacy is safe whatever happens on the first Saturday in November.
"As far as I'm concerned, she's just one of the best ever," he said. "She's going to go off to the pasture and if she's 19 for 20 or 20 for 20, I think she'll be OK."
OK, no more thinking... I DO love him!

I'd love to have a racehorse (or even a few) some day when financially able to count that purely as "fun" money and not expect a profit, and with that in mind, I do maintain informal mental lists headed "trainers I'd love to have train my horse" and "trainers I wouldn't let near my horse."
John Shirreffs has definitely put himself firmly on the former for his work with Zenyatta. I hate to think of what some of them would have done with this mare. Seriously doubt she'd be going for 20 for 20 under different career management.

TVG broadcasted live her work at Hollywood Park a short time ago. I suspect it will be on youtube in a few hours. It was a different work then normal as they went further then typically: 7 furlongs in a timed 1.27.1
Warm up your DVRs as she will be in one of the features on CBS's 60-Minutes to air October 31.

Thank you for that info, Glimmerglass! Finally I have a place to point people who wonder about her -- well, wonder about me, about her -- but aren't going to look her up on the net or even open links.

Maybe the Mods should have a Post-It section for anything equestrian or racing that is in the main-stream media, like this upcoming "60 Minutes" segment.
If producers, editors, ad people see that there is a viewership/readership related to horse sports, they'll just follow the money.
