I was just reading an article about Conrad as the course designer for the WEG, and was reminiscing about the great horses and riders we had in the 1980s. Besides Conrad (who made it look so easy), we had so many incredible riders - and horses...
Some of my fave pairs:
Joe/ Touch of Class
Katie/Noren (remember him?)
Who were some of your faves from the 80s?? There were so many greats...

Let the horse go, get out of its way, it knows what to do...Stop pulling and keep kicking!!!!!!
Thanks, Flashy Gray, for the shout out for Buccy. His best year was 1980 when he won the World Cup, Valley Forge and Charlotte all in the space of 3 weeks. He won a couple more GPs before his death in 1984, but 1976 - 1980 were his strongest years. He was also selected for the Moscow Olympics.
Michael/Jet Run and so many others
Rodney/Coastline (Spy was done by the 80s, unfortunately)
Norman/Allegro and I Love You
Laurie, as a young-ish teen I got to take a trip up to Ox Ridge - I was childhood friends with PB's granddaughter for a few years - for the life of me I can't recall what year it was but I could swear we saw Balbuco go, hence it had to be pre-'84.
Have some wonderful old photos of that weekend that are very scan-worthy (if I had a scanner).
I much prefer to remember Norman Dello Joio's wonderful partnership with I Love You.
For the Moment (Fred) and Lisa Jacquin. What is so remarkable about this pair is that she took this OTTB from cross-rails all the way to multiple Grad Prix wins, the Pan-Am games, and the Olympics. A truly great OTTB who went all the way to the top.
