    Default weight distribution effects

I am getting a new trailer and plan on using a weight distribution hitch so as to ease the burden on my Suburban 1500 (1/2 ton) and also to increase the quality of the ride and well as the safety. I was telling a serviceman at a Chevy dealership this and he said it was much better for the car but did not increase the amount of weight a vehicle could pull. Is that correct?

My new Dodge Ram 1500 says that it can tow under 5,000 lbs with a dead hitch, and more (up to specs) with a weight distributing hitch.

So I'd agree that it will increase the amount of weight you can pull "safely".

If the ponies get to moving around on the highway, the hitch helps keep the trailer stable.

Chances are the 'maximum' amount your suburban can pull, as listed by the manufacturer, already includes the additional bump from a weight distributing hitch (most do).
