Sorry to hear it. That is tough.

Don't feel bad about taking some time for yourself, for reflection, or just to regroup.

Buy a big bag of carrots, that will also help.

Tell us more about Kobie's history before he started eventing, please, and his pedigree if you know it, and his age. That info could be educational in many ways for those who buy event horses.

You have my sympathy on his early retirement. Perfect partners are to be cherished and pampered, even in retirement.

I'm so sorry for your bad news but bless you for keeping Kobie's best interest at the forefront. I hope the 7+ months of stall rest help tremendously. Hugs to both of you.

We retired Gryhrs boy this summer too, very tough to take. He raced and at the age of 15 is done jumping. I love your positive energy and love for Kobie.

Does he have a tatoo or registered JC name? If so you can easily look up his race record.

No tattoo, then he never raced. My mare never raced either, though she is registered. It is my understanding that thoroughbreds *may* train at a track without a tattoo, they are not allowed to race at all without one.

if there is no tattoo then he never raced, he may have trained but not race.

He has a full brother named Judith's Garden who races. He's a 2005 model with 29 starts on Equineline. 29 starts would put him in the sound class most probably, unless they are running him on band-aids.

Pedigree does have a bearing. In Excess (Indian Charlie's sire) has a reputation for siring fragile horses, and I believe that Indian Charlie does also, but not certain. Kobie is double RAN, top and bottom, with one of those doubles being Mr. P on the bottom.

I'm really sorry! I just retired a 10 year old with arthritis issues that refuse to resolve, so I completely feel your pain. Jingles for light riding sound when it is all said and done.

Good luck to you, Emily. I am sure Kobie appreciates you and all the good care that you give him more than you can ever know. I hope the silver lining appears in the near future...

I'm so sorry, but I can just hear the love you have for him in your message. He's a lucky guy!

I hope that you get to enjoy him for a long time to come! Enjoy your bonding time and keep him well fed with carrots

    Sending hugs to you!

You sound like you are approaching this with a great attitude. You still have lots to learn from each other, and about each other. Keep enjoying him.
