Talking Out of the mouth of (horsey) babes... in communication with their non-horsey friends

We added another set of hooves to the family last week for my stepdaughter. She is already doting on her little mare every spare minute and planning their future together. She intends to do a dressage schooling show next month, and this is the exchange I overheard when she informed her non-horsey friend.

DD: ... and I'm going to take her to a dressage show on October 30.

Friend: Oh, cool, is that where you dress the horse up and everything?

DD: No, silly, it's not "Dress Odd". It's dress-ahge.

    how cute!

my non-horsey boyfriend just got his first horse a couple of months ago.

the first day he rode (sweetest little, patient, tolerant, gelding EVER) he put his helmet on, boots on, and as we were walking toward the arena I could see he was getting a little nervous (tough guy right?) and then he asked......

"are going to run him around in circles on a string first, before I get on him?"

I snickered, and said "well, if you think I should, I will"
