Pam that last photo of you and Valor is absolutely amazing! It is an image of true inspiration to many of us.. I think I will wait for this thread to be far off the front page before I decide to post a photo of myself! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif
    You are a beautiful rider!
Just awesome Pam! You have to be so proud.. You know, I think you should think about having a book published of your show life with these wonderful horses! Maybe Merry could do the writing? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...icon_smile.gif

Whoa! horsaholic. I am just an average rider on the circuit I ride on. Keep in mind, I only showed you the good pictures. For some reason http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif I chose not to post pictures of the chips, the bad jumps and the bad horses (possibly because I would not spend $$ to buy those pictures in the first place).

I have had some nice horses. But I have also had some real average ones. You will never see pictures of Alice-You-Pig or Ratso or Louie on this BB (Thank God. You would be screaming "My eyes, my eyes" like whazzername on Friends).

Believe me, if a book is worthy of being written, therre are hundreds, if not thousands, of people more worthy of starring in it than me.

Madeline (or anyone else) do you have any other photos from the 30's (or earlier) through the 50's? I just love those photos... classic beauty.

I love the (not OLD, to me, they're just REGULAR!!!!!) pictures. too bad the pictureof ME at age 5 (1957) is on a REALLLLLY ugly black pony in western-type tack with the saddle WAYYYYY up on his withers, and I'm proud in VERRRRRRY flared jodhpurs and a horse-head-print shirt that my mother PROUDLY got at a swap meet. We didn't KNOW the western tack and English attire didn't match until YEARS later...

LH - the indoor picture was from Dwyer Hill. My showing venues have all been in Canada.

Hannibal had a fairly thin, fine tail and if it was the least bit muddy, up it went in a mudknot. A fashion that just isn't practiced much these days. I rather like the look of a tail done up on a horse with a nice round butt.

Absolutely breathtaking, Pam. That picture of Valor at the Garden gives me goosebumps. Here is my contribution to hunter dress of olde, even though 12 years really isn't that long ago I suppose. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...icon_smile.gif

I don't dare laugh. Somewhere in storage, I have that picture from that same year..... Except my madras coat was blue based. Light blue, darker stripes in blues greys greens. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...s/icon_eek.gif Think it had the occasional red pinstripe as well. Beige britches with a flare that would have done Hollywood proud. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...s/sadsmile.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif

Pam - what an amazing shot of valor. It was so nice of you to share it and your other pictures.

And even though mine doesn't compare, I'll keep the pictues going by attaching one of California fashions in 1974. Red coat with gold buttons (including two on the back) and black velvet collar, matching red yarn in the braids, rolled bridle, large round number with wire that looped over the collar and some sort of transitional crest/automatic release.

    Any other pictures to share?

TH, That was two years before I met you! YOu were just a puppy back then, but one heckuva good riding puppy. And, according to the style of the day, you were the height of fashion! I never had a rolled bridle and was always jealous of people who did. And a red coat with a black velvet collar.... Well... I am speechless......

That was Ruby Tuesday, right? (I am not psychic, I saw that the title of the picture was "rubysmall"... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...icon_smile.gif)

Do you have any pictures of Taco? I wanna see pictures of Taco!

I love his expression in that photo. He looks so noble.

    Lordhelpus-

This thread has been great. Your pictures are beautiful and the styles bring back a lot of memories and chuckles.I wish I had a scanner to post some pictures.

I remember my mother not allowing my sisters and me to wear jeans to ride in until the early sixties. It was always boots and breeches - in the winter it was thick corduroy ones with the craziest button up fly front. I do also remember my first pair of custom boots and of course I wanted them with the patent leather tops. I thought I was the cat's a$$ in them.

I also remember when the breeches went from flared to semi-flared and then to non-flared. I for some reason felt like I would be wearing tights if I went to the non-flared breeches. My trainer told or scolded me and my mother to forget eating lunch and get some non-flared breeches. We were at Fairfield that weekend and thus I started wearing what I thought were tights. We laughed about it for years as I thought I was wild wearing the semi-flared.

About 1965 I stepped of the earth and bought a pair of chaps. I was the only english riding girl to own a pair in about a
about a 50 mile radius. I loved them but boy did I take a lot os sh$$ because of them.

The rolled bridle I kept until about two years ago. Stopped using it but kept it out of love for it. I finally said goodbye and gave to someone who shows Arabs.

Sorry to say I never had I red coat. The hunt coat with the hunt collar is still in the closet. No longer hunt and no appointment classes either so maybe I can get buried in it along with my sewn in bridle and sandwhich case.

Anyways- thanks for the walk down memory lane!!!

edited for incorrect spelling- but I am sure I still missed some

But ya' know, we all have our price. I believe, for a certain amount of cash and estate jewelry, I can make room in my schedule oh, around September. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...on_biggrin.gif

Depends on how much cash you are willing to offer, and whether or not the estate jewelry has been in your family for more than 3 generations. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...s/winkgrin.gif

If we can agree on terms, September is good for me, too. I can make time in my busy schedule between the Keeneland Yearling Sales and the International Hunter futurity. Got to plan for the future, yanno.

I daresay, LordHelpus, in one of your pics you looked ... disabled. (A legitimate topic for the BB seeing as there was a neckbrace over a riding shirt in the pic). I think we rode in the same A/O division in 1977 at WPB, but it was not one of my horse, "Piece O' Cake's," better shows as she was reacting to all the fire ants by her stall and the sulpher water.

Hi Xegeba! My computer is still down, but we got another computer for now. I just got worked like a dog last week and couldn't slip away to get on the Board. (I didn't run away to the dismay of some). I think I must know LordHelpus somehow since we seem to have crossed a lot of paths, but I never got to show at the Forum, only the Cow Palace.

Hey Xegeba, we are leaving West Palm Beach and the computer signal from the Merlin drops crossing the State, so if I'm not back on the Board until later I'll be back to see if you are going to the Selection Trials. I wish I lived closer so I could go watch, and have lunch with you!!
