Surf City Cowboy Challenge this weekend in Huntington Beach!
I can't wait, we had a blast watching it last year as well. It is hosted by the Extreme Cowboy Association and is a fundraiser for the Red Bucket Equine Rescue in Huntington Beach, which just last week received its 501(c)3 status.
I toyed for 0.000000000001 seconds with the idea of taking Oliver in the I Have No Business Doing This division, but when we tally ho on trail he has a tendency to buck like mad. So probably best to pay $5 and hoot and holler for everyone else instead.
They have a Family Fun Fair as well, an auction and a Barbecue and Hoedown in the evening.
See you there? Hope so!

Can't wait for the Hoedown, and watching the competitors last year was so much fun I spent a tad longer than Coreene thinking about taking the Paint Princess in the novice division, but gave that up after about 2 days when I realized the princess WILL NOT get her feet wet

Equibrit ! Yeah, maybe with next years's, but since it is in three days and the horse has never puled logs with a lasso etc, I will proudly wear the Big Ol' Chicken$hit badge this time around and practice bucking up for next year's. But I shall put a tenner into the collection box in your honor, my treat.

PS, they've rescued at least 76 horses since January 2009 and rehomed 28. We've been in tears when we've seen them at the beginning, and in tears again when they find a new home. Proud of them, they're doing a great job.

Well, if they scream "hoedown" we won't hit the dirt.

I've already warned Miss Maresy that she is not to drop to the floor either. Such a hussy with the boys sometimes even though she LOFFS Oliver

That DOES sound like a lot of fun.
Would love to do that some day with DP, except that he never, never neeevaaaarh does anything fast the first time he does it. S-L-O-W is safe, and he values safety (especially his own) above all else. Which is a truly admirable quality in a fat-old-lady's horse .
(that, and I haven't mounted from the ground since pre-hip-replacement and can guaran-damn-tee that I ain't doin' it in front of an audience ... )

IIRC, last year there was no mount/dismount. I can only mount now from the top step of the tallest mounting block, so for me it would be impossible. I can't wait for this weekend - last year was a blast! And I finally got a bracelet made of Willem's tail hair. Never wear it, but it's attached to one of my saddles so the Great Red One can come along for the ride.
