Default Question: How long to wait before Lutalysing (sp?) a mare after a natural heat cycle?

Was curious to see if anyone knew the period of time you need to wait before short cycling a mare who just came out of a regular heat cycle?

    Thanks!

All my vets have always told me at least 5 days after ovulation.

On average, (if any mare can be considered "average"), a mare will ovulate 24 hrs before she goes o/o heat.

So if you give LL to her a week after the last time you saw heat signs, you should be ok.

Of course, if you know for sure when she ovulated, that's even better.

A mare should technically come back into season 3-5 post lutalyse, thus saving you 3-4 days in the end. However, if you are too early for the shot, your mare will come back into season as planned at 21 days.

Lutalyse, if given at the "wrong" time should not interfere with the normal process. There isn't much risk to using it.

Just talked to my vet about this, she says to wait a week after the last signs of being in season
