Rock on! I used to ride a 4YO OTTB who was going blind in his left eye. He was the keenest, smartest jumper I've ever sat on. You could literally see the wheels turning in his head as he approached a grid or combination. Fun horse. Yours looks like he is too!
Thanks guys! I had actually retired him from jumping before the eye came out because he was stopping so much... but he's a whole new horse now! Seeing pics like that when you get done with XC reminds you just how special a horse can be.
Classic! (the costumes!)
I loved the event pictures- it made me tear up some too. Good for you for not giving up! I don't know what his problem was-but I know that many of the horses I've takens eyes out of seem much more comfortable and happy afterwards! Hope I get to see him in person someday.
I have seen you write about him in past post. What awesome pictures. He is ready for the next challenge isnt he? Ya'll look great together.
I have known several blind horses but one that showed in TX in the open shows still amazes me. Those lope over poles set as a wagon wheels that horse made it look easy, mine would have poles going every where.
Do you have any issues with him not relaxing into the bridle? My guy raises his head to see and I cannot get him to travel on the bit for extended periods of time in new places.
I don't usually have that issue in dressage, but he is very sensitive to scenery- jumping towards crowds/roads etc. We had a run out at Penny Oaks because of a break in the tree line, he wheeled to look at it- not sure if thats HIM or the eye, but really the issue is mostly that he won't bend left. He's pretty darn good in different places.
