    Default Calling all HJ Fashionistas

This is sort of a spin off from the belt thread. Though it's not only about belts!

In a sport where tradition dictates most of our fashion choices, and conservative/classic is always chic, I was thinking it would be fun to have a thread about how you stay within the lines, but still make your style your own?

    Post your favorites!

I have a belt I love, that my trainer does not

In the eighties when I was a teenager I when through a suspender phase... pretty soon a lot of people were wearing suspenders in my area. Now I express myself on warm up day by schooling in my old "retro" navaho pads. On show day I might choose rust breeches and my old green Pytchley coat... another subtle way to express yourself is with a cute monogram on your collar, or a fancy belt buckle... oh and don't forget the socks... fun socks, provided that they don't show out the top of your boots.

I love the ridiculously blingy western belts. I have an aqua one. So cute but it might blind people when the sun hits it just right.

Pleasedaspunch: I love the gold damask points! Did you get those made? Not much call for a shad where I show, but I would so do that.

I get picked on b/c I almost always show with argyle plaid socks. It was a sad day when the lucky red ones died. I've also been known to sport a tooled western belt and buckle. As for what you actually really see in the ring, though, I'm pretty traditional. But I do like brown crops/gloves/boots; they just REALLY stand out on my new horse, so I stick to black.

Interestingly, my socks are usually argyle as well. I think it stems from a horse show in Ohio sometime around 2001, something about a walmart and a fitness instructor named Raul. I don't know why but I've shown in them since.

I have two pairs of interestingly colored Zocks that I wear to shows... they don't show over the tops of my boots but I like to wear them just to show them off. I have a lime green pair with a sort of paisley print and purple leopard print. I usually wear them over my breeches with my crossword puzzle print Converse.

I do as well. I believe you should be able to have fun with your accessories - as long as they remain tasteful. But feel free to go crazy with your boot socks!

oh such great fun....thank you for sharing everyone, i love seeing the different ways you've made your looks your own.

trixie - that shade of blue shirt is GORGEOUS with the rust breeches. i've never seen that combo, and in theory i would not have expected to love blue with rust. but that color is perfect!!!!!! and i'm sure you know how i feel about the zebra belt...love!

ludgerfan, totally agree - a tasteful amount of animal print is a timeless classic. it's that tasteful bit where the lines can get blurry. hahaha.

pleasedaspunch, gorgeous choice for the shadbelly! do you have any pix of it all put together?

blackcat, if i didn't need such thick socks with my boots i would totally rock the zocks.

needsadvil, i'm with you - i think trixie should def. share that story. hahaha.

Look for the Kyra K socks. I have really skinny calves and feet and they are thicker and have a padded sole. I have two pairs of these (not counting the aforementioned deceased red ones) and really like them.

sigh, my most favorite belts were from when breeches were at the natural waist whci means they don't really fit on the new style breeches. So sad. So many Zest of the West belts. *snif*

I do have some newer kippy style belts that I use and I like them. Very blingy. But under the jacket blingy.
