Default I need driving bit resources.

I am looking for a 5.5" Glory bit with 2 slots.

    http://i1.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/d4/2c/c786_2.JPG
    but this is too narrow.

Not sure if I need fixed or moveable cheekpieces. Been watching ebay but they're all 5".

5"s are easy to find and priced around $50. I have not been able to find a 5.5" for under $85-90.

I only have a few driving bit links. Please post your favorite bit links so I don't have to pay $85-90 for a simple bit! I am ok with a used bit as long as it is what I described.

    Thanks!

    Yip

Wendy, $85-$90 is the going rate for a new Glory bit. You're not likely to find a new one for any less. Are you on the CD-L? I see used Glory bits advertised on there from time to time. You might be able to pick one up there in the 5.5" size at a reasonable cost.

Here are some of my personal favorite places to get driving bits and other gear from:
    http://www.drivingessentials.com/
    http://www.carriagedriving.com/
    http://www.iowavalleycarriage.com/index.php

I used to order from Smuckers' and they still have a website but I'm not sure what their status is. I thought they had gone out of business:
http://www.smuckersharness.com/ Anyway, they don't carry Glory bits, or at least they didn't used to.

I unfortunately sold my last 5.5" Glory bit a couple of years ago or you could have mine. The fat-lipped Hafs are in 6" bits now.

Thanks, Karen. Those look like the same sites I have. I'll do it if I have to but, ouch!

I measuerd Cookie 3x and got 5", then added 1/4" per side. She looks like she has a wide mouth, but I can't imagine her in a 6". And the *real* haffies have narrower looking muzzles...

I am not a member of CD-L. I'll go there and join since they have good resources.

The last driving bit I ordered came from Chimacum Tack, I called and spoke to Janie, told her what I wanted. It was in the mid-$40's, including shipping and arrived within 3 days. I'm not sure if she has Glory bits, but you could always ask.

Claudette usually has a good stock or can get Glory bits rather fast if its not in stock

    Thumbs up

Hmm, you will be hard pressed to find a Glory bit in the ballpark you are looking for. Glory's typically go for $80-$90 regardless of company. If you are concerned that your horse won't like it and you don't want to shell out the cash just in case then contact Coachman's Delight. They have a very liberal bit return policy, unlike most retailers. If your horse hates the new bit, you just return it for another or a refund!

Uh, I feel silly - I just looked at the pic you posted, which I had not done prior to my last post. That's actually a Glory knockoff and it's only available in 5". That's why you are not finding it in a 5.5". It retails new for about $60 and does not come with a curb and is most definitely not made by Glory.

Feeling your pain about bit prices - just bought a Sprenger KK Ultra Liverpool...sigh....horsie likes it tho'.
