Default Old James River Hunt Show - Where Was It Held?

I just saw a prize list for the 2010 James River Hunt show and noticed that they held it at Rose Mount. Where did they used to hold it? I seem to remember it was more in the Hampton area.

I think it was down off route 460, like maybe Waverly Va or in that general vicinity.

I think back in the late 70's when I showed there it was somewhere in Hampton. I remember the ring the ponies showed in was fenced off on grass. I do not remember where in Hampton though!

Before Rosemount, the James River Hunt Club Show spent several years at the Airfield 4-H Center in Wakefield, VA. Before that it was at the James River Hunt Club grounds in Hampton. It was in the North Hampton area of Hampton, which really is more kind of in the middle of Hampton. It is now, can you guess? A housing development! It even has a name like Hunt Club Farms or something like that. I showed local shows there for many years. I grew up about 5 minutes from there.

This must be the place I remember. We stayed in a hotel next to the Coliseum and showed in a grass ring.

That is the horse show that started me off....my mom used to push me over in my stroller when I was a toddler to watch the show. She said it was the only thing that would keep my attention for hours on end. It was in Hampton, sort of near Coliseum Mall.

Back in the days it was held in Hampton it had a great outside course and nice ring. Sigh. All the good venues are gone........
