Viney-let me know if you get any response. Maybe they are leery about the distance and not responding. I am about ready to call myself and get the ball rolling if she's not sold (which I hope she's not). Is shipping still sorted out or does it still need to be arranged/rearranged?

We're back at square one with shipping, at least from what I've done. That good deal was only workable if we were able to get her on the truck in the beginning of this week. Other quotes I've gotten have ranged from $900 to $1,000, but they're expired, also. So, when and if Viney gets this mare, we'll have to start the transportation process over again. That's really no big deal, just something that needs to be done.

Had to go to town today, and came back to a message from the owner on my answering machine. She's had a bad week and just wasn't able to get back to me. If I pass the PPE phone call, the mare will be mine. Now we just have figure out how to get her here, and she needs to be away from them as soon as possible.

I'm sure we can find a place to stash her pending transportation. I'm thinking of possible alternatives: sending her to KY or nearby and I could pick her up at Rolex. Or shipping anywhere south and I could pick her up. Or just shipping her directly here (or near here).

So to the army of enablers, let's all put on our thinking caps and see what we can come up quickly.

Any chance of a transport chain? We've got a ton of people here willing to help...can we line up a group of people along the route willing to drive 100 miles (or whatever) to get her where she's got to go?

I'm totally in the wrong place, but I'll toss some dollars in the pot to help cover gas or whatever.

I'm the other way - Ontario but have a few dollars to chip in for gas. Will put feelers out and see if anybody from up here is going south at all anytime soon. I don't have a truck and trailer or I'd get her part way myself.

Best of luck with her Viney-- seems like fate she is meant to be with you. Will keep checking this thread for hopefully happy updates, as she makes her way down to you.

Twistoffate has said that I could get the mare to her and then pick her up at Rolex. She's in WV just south of Ohio, so NY to WV shouldn't be as big a hauling bill as Upper New York to Mississippi. Time to drag out the maps.

Hmmm, I wonder if we could get her to Finger Lakes? There are often race trackers running from there down to Mountaineer. That's on the Ohio border, but, is it in the same area as Twistoffate? buffalo colleen's connections are fresher than mine. Maybe she has some ideas. I've PM'd her about a transporter she mentioned to me earlier. Hopefully, she will check in on this thread as well.

If she can get to Finger Lakes. I've got a few shippers that head from FL to Saratoga pretty frequently these days, if viney 'passes' and the mare needs someplace to hang out for a few days, I've got the room! And obviously, will help any other way I can.

Have a close friend just south of Syracuse who does some shipping of hunters as needed south. Will see if she has any shipments coming up in the near future, and if so, would they coordinate with plans above.

That sounds promising, CVPeg! One of my old racetrack contacts says that she "might" be able to make the run to the Watertown area to pick up the horse and get her to the Finger Lakes track area. It all depends on timing, of course, which is why we should make people aware, but not set definite plans until the horse has passed her PPE and Viney actually has possession of her.

I'm not going to do a PPE. I don't care if she's broken or not. I was the one who had to pass. Lets give all those who have offered assistance a couple of days to see what comes up.

OK, buffalo colleen has kindly given me a couple of names to contact, but, of course, I don't want to do that until things are a go. I think Viney is right. I have a couple of people to hear back from, and Viney has to finalize the purchase, so, as hard as it is (I'm the impatient type), I think we all have to sit back and wait for a day or so.

My contact sometimes takes a bit to get back to me. Have sent them a FB message, but if nothing further, I'll call by the end of the weekend - unless others need to know sooner. Not a big firm involving a van, but good people with a long trailer who do haul professionally. I'll keep an eye out here for any changes.

And if they aren't headed south soon, may still be willing to do the barn to Finger Lakes leg. Actually, they're SW of Syracuse - Finger Lakes not far for them.

Heard from my friend. Unfortunately they're heading the opposite direction this weekend/early next week. I've asked them to let me know, however, if they have to head south in the near future.

I'm 17 miles from Finger Lakes. I can put her up for a couple of days or so if it helps with the shipping arrangements. Must be before the 2nd week in April, though...

Kind friends, I've had to reconsider after a few sleepless nights. I'm 66 and she is 7. I won't outlive her, nor will I be in any physical condition to care for her personally as I age; and the vets here are older than I am. When they retire, we'll be without local vets; nearest ones, not equine specialists, are a minimum of 40 miles away. The nearest equine specialists are in the Memphis area which is close to 80 miles away. She will require regular visits to an equine specialist for her tooth care, and the thought of hauling all that distance every six months is chilling. I'm very creaky personally, and it seems that my back arthritis is getting progressively worse to the point that some days I cannot function without pain medication. I was deluding myself that I still was able to do all that I could ten years ago. I can't. She needs a home with a younger person who will ride her as regularly as she seems to want and need.

I've emailed the owners and told them all this. I've also said that if it comes to a choice between me and auction, I'll still be here for her.

Oh viney-you're right (as usual). Now we need to work on a Plan B for this mare. I'm sending her ad to some people I know up here who might be interested. In the meantime anyone else???????????
