Default The best decision I've ever made... with picture link. :-)

13 years ago today I made the best decision I've ever made when I agreed to take a tiny little black orphaned thoroughbred filly who had been deemed untrainable and dangerous.

Well.... 13 years later she's never done a single mean or dangerous thing and she is HANDS DOWN the most trainable horse I've ever met. Together we've pretty much done it all, been there AND gotten the t-shirts. ;-p

Here are some pictures from her little "anniversary" party today. It's a public link so despite being hosted by facebook everyone should be able to see them.

So... anyone else have pictures of their "special" horses?

Awww... thanks guys! She's pretty special. :-)

I forgot, she does have one "mean" habit. She HATESHATESHATES pigeons, and can knock one out of the air with a front hoof in the middle of a flat class and not even break stride or change expression.

She was announced as "The great pigeon hunter" when being called out of the line-up for her ribbon. :-p

But really... that's it, I swear!!!

She even saved my life once when a loose dog attacked me. She might be a midget, but she's got enough mare-tude for five horses.

    She's awesome. :-)

    of course I do. :-)

her father has the same unflappable laid back personality. The stallion owner has a great story about him being ridden into a hotel for a banquet once, back while he was still on the track. He didn't blink an eye at ANYTHING, even when he had to duck to get through the door.

I got to meet him once, he's completely stunning in person. :-) And a complete gentleman.

I'd love to see a picture of the pigeon incident.

    Default Happy Anniversary

Congratulations on your Anniversary. I think that is wonderful for both of you.

I, too, would like to see some pigeon action from her. That would be amazing.

Some people have bird dogs. You have a bird horse. Now, if you could teach her to retrieve...

we ALL wish we had video of the pigeon incident!!

She'd done it before in lessons,

    --Courtesy circle, smack-a-pigeon, line---

but that was the first time before a paying audience.

One of her other funny traits is: because she was an orphan, the breeding farm raised her off a dairy goat. A white Saanen to be exact. So while the rest of us see white goats as... well... you know... white goats, she sees them as GIANT WHITE BOTTLES OF YUMMY GOODNESS!!! and LOVES on them until they run away.

She also bleats like a goat instead of whinnying most of the time. :-)

    Good times...

Awww... thanks. Yeah she's pretty special. The day after I got her, I was walking around the big field looking for a lost shoe. Annie was following me trying to "help" and every once in a while she'd reach over and just touch me on the back with her nose to make sure that I was still there. (she came from a *really* bad situation, and wasn't completely sure yet that she'd actually been saved) My boss was watching and predicted to me that I had just found my once in a lifetime horse. I laughed at the time, but... she was right!
