We tried to breed our mare with frozen semen and 2008. She took twice, but lost the embryo between 14 and 30 days. She also got very anxious to the point that we had to send her "best friend" pony with her to the breeding staion or she was unsafe for the VET! In early 2009 we tried again with the last of the frozen and no pregnancy. We then took her a local farm and she became pregnant on the first try with fresh semen and did not loose it. She's about to foal and we'd like to breed her with fresh cooled semen. I'm trying to figure out whether she just had a problem with frozen, or just couldn't be successful at the busy breeding station, too anxious. Any advice out there?
it's not the edge of the earth, but you can see it from here
What were the issues besides the stress? Fluid? She got PREGNANT--which says that really the frozen wasn't the issue, something else was...
Fresh as in just filtered and no extender?
It's really hard to say then if the extender could be the issue--in which case there are different extenders too, so finding the right one that keeps the swimmers swimming AND the mare can tolerate could work.
But really, it sounds like she was conceiving, but something else going on post 14 days...
