    Default Sidney's Candy

Does anyone know where this horse is? I really like him and would love to try and keep track of him and maybe even be there in the end for him.....

Since his last race was the KY Derby and he's owned by Mrs. Craig, I doubt he's in peril. In fact, as a G1 winner, I'd venture that he's just fine. My guess is the he'll start next in the Swaps S at HOL in July.

I signed up for a thing called Virtual Stable. They send me notices on the horses I've chosen for my stable. It's one way of keeping track. Sidneys Candy is a nice horse. Unless he really falls on hard times, I don't see him going cheap any time soon. (my idea of cheap is under $500.00)

He's also intact and a son of Candy Ride, plus the whole Derby thing (poor finish or no.) I strongly suspect he's headed to the shed when he's done on the track.

I always think of Exceller and Ferdinand..Is there any contact info on the J. Craig people..just want them to know..He may not be a good stud in time or he may get injured..
I have a special interest in this horse..and would like to keep track of him....

Virtual Stable through equibase.com is a good way to keep track. You can contact the track/center where he's training to let them know your interest. They might give you trainer's contact or even owner's contact. Better than nothing.

As he's unlikely to be sold off the track Virtual Stable may not help once he's retired. Keep an eye on things like DRF and bloodhorse and watch for where he ends up going to stud.

It's nice that you are interested in the horse. There are plenty out there that need a home, but I doubt Sidney's Candy is one of them. I hate to discourage anyone that wants to give a retired race horse a new home, but don't embarrass yourself. I won some money on this year's Derby and jokingly told a friend I would pay x amt. of dollars (a very small amount!) for a very well known horse that hasn't been running up to his owners expectations. My friend works for a vet who does some work for this owner. Long story short, she called them and told them of my "offer". I was JOKING and I'm mortified. This horse is in no danger whatsoever and now I'm afraid to ever step foot on their farm again

Ya know ya never know what the future may bring..Look at what happened to other G1 winners, ie: Ferdinand and Exceller for instance...Or Chelokee( I think he was at the G2 or 3 level).. thank god he hopefully is in a good place. If a stallion does not produce well he is not kept around. I am saying in years to come...when he is an old man..I would love to see him and help him if he needs it. I have a special place for this horse. I own a Candy Stripes son and love the line. I know, the chances are slim but still the offer is out there down the line.

Chelokee is standing at the University of Arizona, he's fine. The other two weren't in this country when they were sent to slaughter, so it's a bit different.

But it doesn't hurt to ask/offer.

He worked well at HP this morning. Six furlongs, 1.11:60 handily.

As far as charity cases go, I think you can look elsewhere.

Guess he'll be seen on the turf from now on! That was so far from what a turf race normally looks like, wow.

Oh I didn't hear that about Macias--thought he just tired. Hope he is ok.
Bad day -- I saw Fantasy Free fall. I don't think that ended well for the horse but Mike Smith was ok to ride, after sitting out a couple, in the La Jolla.

That was a wonderful effort and it didn't look like he was taxed at all in setting the track record. Impressive!

    Fantasy Free was euthanized.

    The latest from DRF:

"Macias faded to finish last in the field of eight, and was vanned off because of concern over his right foreleg, according to track stewards."
