Default A sweet little observation about horses...

Maybe I am hormonal but this got to me.... hope you enjoy it!

My (non-horsey) sister-in-law is a literacy coach for elementary school students, and she tries to encourage kids to develop their skills through persuasive writing. She assigned a class to write her letters to convince her what type of pet she should get. Some of the replies were pretty cute and funny (apparently you can walk a turtle "if you walk really slowly"), but she was really struck by a letter from a very shy and quiet 8 year old girl who wrote: "You should get a horse, because when you own a horse, half your heart comes back to you."

How sweet! That is definitely a horse-loving second grader! Very well said, too!

I must be hormonal 'cause that made me cry.

Can I get that on a bumper sticker?

That little girl should go on to WRITE horse books someday.
Every one of them had that look of a girl infatuated with horses, the happy, fated look of a passenger setting sail on the Titanic.

OK, I've watched this thread for a couple of days, hoping someone else would confess ignorance.

Apparently, that's not going to happen. Maybe I really am the only one.

Anyway, would someone please explain to me what the girl's observation means?

I'll bite, Paint. I take it to mean that a horse can complete you in a way. that the love you give a horse is unconditional and you get great satisfaction and joy in interacting with that horse.

For me, Horses aren't something I "do", they are who I AM.

Having the love of a horse is like finding the other half of your heart that you didn't even know you had lost.

    Agreed.

My horses are my everything and I need them as much as or more than they need me.

"the love you give a horse is unconditional" -- true. But what takes my breath away is the fact that THEY love ME unconditionally. No matter what I say or what mood i'm in they always greet me with a nicker and some nuzzles

Nope, you're not the only one who didn't understand what it meant. I only saw this thread today, however, or I would have been the one asking. . . .

I have to admit that even though I didn't understand what it meant, it made me tear up.
