Though just a lurker on this thread, the words have always been inspiring to read.

Read the update about the great dr. apt. and then, today, this. I am devastated and once again all too aware of the quick changes in cancer. My husband had made what seemed like amazing progress in strength and lessening pain and we even went on a trip. I was in total denial and thought we'd go on like that for a long long time. He died 2 weeks later. Elene's optimism and joy of life are such a gift, that I would change places with her if I could.

I've been a longtime lurker on this thread, and like Ghazzu, I hoped it would go on a lot longer.

Thank you, Élène—your grace and kindness have set such an example. We need more people like you in the world. Peace and light to you now, and for your family. Know that you are often in my thoughts.

I wish I could have followed the thread more, but having a dear, dear friend who was fighting her own four year battle with ovarian cancer (passed in April 2013) I had to stay away. I would read some of Elene's words, but hear them in my head in my friend's voice. It's such a terrible disease!!

and I couldn't have said it better than onelanerode::

Elene, you have a light in you that is so strong and so bright that you've left a spark of it in each one of us who have been fortunate enough to brush against you, even if only electronically. I, for one, will cherish that spark and nurture its (your) qualities and goodness in myself and fan it into a blaze with love and optimism. You've left your mark on so many of us, which is much more than the average person can claim and we will carry you with us for the rest of our days.
    Godspeed, Peace, Love.

    Leena,

You are one of the strongest people I have ever *known*. You have shared your wisdom, insight, gentleness, and incredible strength with so many - and we are all so much better for it.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. And our horses thank you too.

I am so sad to hear of your recent turn of events.

Miracles happen - I will join those who are praying for yours.

Let me tell you that, in her last thoughts, she was still training. I was with her during her last conscious moments. Her life was all about nature and animals. We will miss her.

No further update and I am not sure what to take from the above. I just hope that she is not in pain any longer and that she is comfortable. She has touched so many people north and south of the border!

Leena told me several years ago that her father and one of her siblings are both doctors, so she has had great care from her own family.

I suggested several years ago that we Cothers should have some kind of yearend award in honor of Leena, maybe for the most courageous Cother or something like that. Overcoming adversity, etc. No one was interested back then. Maybe now we could do something to honor her life with horses?

The person who wrote about her in the above posted on her wall it is only a matter of hours.
I hope we all meet and ride together one day at the Bridge! Ride on Elene!
