I've applied to jobs in both these cities and have gotten notice that I've passed the first round of selection on both. Which of these is the best 'riding' city?
I ride dressage and would like to explore very low level 3-day eventing, but the main reason I'd move from where I am to one of these places is the hiking/riding trails available. So with that in mind, which of these is the best bet?
I tend to board at places that are quite basic (at least one covered arena for work year-round, and access to trails; paddock with shelter type board).
Fort Collins, probably. CO has a huge number of dressage shows during the season, one practically every weekend and that says that dressage is quite big. The novice level eventing you could easily do in either location. Again trails would be about equivalent.
You may want to look for a barn with an indoor (not a covered) in Fort collins so you could ride during the winter. Albuquerque would be warmer, and possibly less windy in the winter.
My older daughter works at UNM in ABQ and I was considering sending a horse out to her. My impression was that there is not much of an "English" riding scene there though there is a dressage barn up towards Sante Fe.
She loves ABQ though
