    WHERE ARE WE?

Has anything positive occurred lately? has anything occurred lately? I have noticed shorter fields, is that due to the vet checks or just coincidence?

Is plenty going on. What you wanna know?
Truthfully though when I post something and it gets no reaction from anybody it really takes all the fun out of it.

I do realize that all the most active folks on this thread have been banned but there used to be a few who gave a crap. Even Dickie shut his website down.

If nobody wants to interact here there are plenty of other places I can play

I saw Dick Hertz closed his site down as i followed that one too. I don't know enough to have a great input here, but I try to follow, because I have a small vested interest ands want to know what is going on.

Maybe I am just taking up space, but it is important to me what happens there and with the horses that are leaving there.

The feeding frenzy is over, and until someone gets hungry enough to dare spill the beans it will remain quiet.
Fear of reprisial and stall loss or ejection and shunning are also mitigating factors in silence.

    Default WINDFALL PROFITS TAX!!!!!!!!!!

    Ok folks,
Let's talk about the parent company Penn National Gaming.

The recent referendum up in Maine was a shocker. All of the new casino's were voted down. They were all-especially the slots at tracks expected to pass easily. These casinos were to be run by Indian tribes. The only one that did pass was table games for Hollywood casino in Bangor. Thus PNGI was the big victor up in Maine.

Once was a time I didn't like Frank Stronach very much. Thought he wasn't good for racing. I was thrilled to hear he got the Maryland tracks. PNGI changed my mind about him. That organization has done nothing but be a detriment to racing wherever they go.

On a recent trip to Pittsburgh I had the pleasure of visiting The Meadows. The place has beautiful surrounding farms looks like a little piece of Lexington. Many new businesses in the area. Fine homes. In short, the place is and looks quite prosperous.

Where is the prosperity that was supposed to come to the capitol region? Grantville itself is still the same hardscrabble little place it's always been. Most of the farms are for sale and not selling. Look like they haven't seen a coat of paint in 30 years. About 75% or more of the population in the town live in trailers. You'd have thought they'd have done a little better in the home town of their flagship track.

Stalls are only given to people from out of state. There are people in there that have been living here for 7 and 8 years and still won't change there truck license plates for fear of being thought of as a local and losing stalls. This while there are empty stalls in every barn? WTF? Yeah, locals getting stalls is like winning the lottery but faraway folks are invited in there. That's right invited. I've had them tell me they got letters inviting them to apply.

You may find reasons or excuses for this policy of theirs but the consequence of it is that much of the money generated by it goes out of town. Central Pennsylvania is getting no benefit and all the negatives from having this obscene casino.
After the politicians were promised everything in return for voting this place in this is what's happened.

Also, speaking of money, check this out:
    http://aflcio.org/corporatewatch/pay...TOKEN=62460429
Peter Carlino the chairman raked in a whopping $9,469,277 in total compensation last year. The few shareholders that I've met and showed this to are appalled. All while fighting tooth and nail any and all efforts of worker organizing or unionization there.

Additionally, while the economy still struggles along this place continues to post record profits every month. Where are all the new jobs that were supposed to come with this? Where is the promised prosperity for central PA?

For this I recommend 2 things

    1) No more racinos. Folks in other states learn from our mistakes. This is not going to save horse racing. Fight against any and all expansion of gambling in your states. Worst part of it is when they get as profitable as this they have more to throw at politicians. Next thing you know your statehouse is working for casino interests.

    2) Politicians of Pennsylvania, for their broken promises and unmatched corporate greed I'd recommend the imposition of a windfall profits tax on the state's casinos. Clobber them good. Tax them till they cry

Penn was a dead end track long before the racino came in. The location does not entice many slot players who like to travel to various slot parlors and/or casinos.

NY is doing very well with their racinos. If Mass allows a casino at Suffolk, it will do well also. imo

Question from those who know. I haven't read the whole thread, but am slogging along at about page 15.

The title of Penn National these days is Hollywood Casino and Racing or something like that. Hollywood Casino should be very publicity conscious, since they want to appeal to the slots lovers, who are mostly women. I know they have other pure gaming locations, because there is one 30 miles up the road from me. If the Casino owns and runs the track as well as the tables and slots, I'd think getting in touch with corporate and letting them know just how sleazy the track actually is. If they can't keep their license in Pennsylvania without a track, they might just be pushed to clean things up there. They do NOT want masses of bad publicity about the butchers and users who run horses to death at place with their name on the door. I don't think their female clientele would like to know what they could be said to condone.

Has anyone tried to go through the Casino company?

Penn Gaming owns the track and casino, as well as many other tracks and casinos. Corporate is aware of whats going on, but as in many large corps people tend to pass the buck and dont have the authority to always make the necessary changes.

Incorrect. It's unfortunate that horses from that farm did end up at slaugther, but they werent' sold to slaughter from Star Barn. They were sold to a buyer, through an auction office, who stated that his intent was to retrain the horses and place them, and it was that buyer sold them to slaughter. As for Star Barn going belly up, it's due in part to an over-zealous, and not completely honest group of horse advocates, who for all intents and purposes are anti-thoroughbred racing, and who are quite adept at twisting a few facts into a very large, embellished and fictional story to server their purpose.

I believe there have been charges filed - including felony charges - so not sure it's just rumor Unless I'm thinking of a different person.

He has one in today, let's see if it runs. Also, they took his entries yesterday morning for the 12/26 card.

    LMAO! COOL!
I bet Penn had an invite and a stall application in the mail to him before the ink was dry on his arrest paperwork
