    Maybe, but then, it will be interesting to see the numbers. All of a sudden, the slaughtered horses are NOT for food? so they can bypass the qt? I don't think there is such a demand for animal food (not in dog/cat food as far as I know) and the zoos are cautious as to what is in the meat as well.

    The numbers may not change, but the price may... we'll just have to wait and see!

    It is my understanding that most of the horses are slaughtered for human consumption but I could be wrong.....at any rate, the people I deal with who are in that business have been talking about it for awhile- what people are going to do and how it will affect their 'business'

    You and FalseImpression are correct - I had it backwards in my brain when I posted.
    I am curious to see what effect, if any, the new regulations have on the export of horses for slaughter.... it certainly is going to throw a monkey wrench into the works when it comes to making unwanted horses disappear as quickly as they were prior to the regulations.

    Look there is a real up to date "list" and if you contact me regarding a specific named horse I will try to find out if horse is on the list.

    The prices should be w/ in reach of CANTER since I know of one that went for $3K big pretty looked to be sound and in good physical shape by most standards.

    $100.00 horses are long since gone and probably most of the ones who were sub par in terms of lameness/condition issues are no long alive.

    Those who will continue to not make race expectations will need homes.

    At most you will get told a price you can't afford and move down the shedrow at best you can leave w/ a horse you want. But if you just keep sitting home writing about it and don't actively go and try then stop writing about it.

    ECR is on Glen Hope Rd in West Grove PA about 12 miles from FHTC and convenient to Route 10 in PA. The farm ....er ranch has a large sign at the end of the driveway leading to the stable area. So far no one has come out w/ a big dog or gun and run me off.

    Cash / trailer and pocket the attitude...suger over vinager.

    For all intents and purpose this board got what it set out to do

    Make Penn wake up and deal with a Problem.

    1 bad apple ejected and a real sore spot ruled off.

    Now for all of you who talk about the horses left, if you want one you need to go and ask the price have cash and take the horse home. Armchair quarterback time over guys.

    Hello, I just joined this forum, although I've lurked for quite some time. I post as second_glance over at TBC, and I tracked Gill's horses from Dec. 1, 2008 through Dec. 31, 2009. The lists posted at TBC come from my data. Here's a sort of current summary that I also just posted at TBC. (I'm definitely human and subject to error, but if any of the numbers are off, it's not by very much.)

    For those concerned about Gill's horses, here's where things stand as of 2/6/10.

    Of the 461 horses who ran for Gill between 12/1/08 and 12/31/09 (by my accounting and tracking):

    4 horses were claimed away in Dec. 2008;

    127 horses were claimed away in 2009 (others were claimed away but he claimed them back);

    8 horses have been claimed away so far in 2010;

    22 horses either (a) broke down fatally in their last race or (b) were injured, their fate is unknown, and they haven't raced since;

    2 horses Gill claimed broke down in the race in which he claimed them (one euthanized on track, the other presumed dead);

    3 horses are known (by me) to have been rescued during 2009;

    68* horses have (a) been traced to new owners (presumably sold cheap or given away), (b) sold to stud (2), (c) shown up on online auction sites, (d) been retrieved by former connections (2 of those died shortly after), or (e) been listed on CANTER (by someone other than Gill, Adamo, or Delahoussaye); and

    108 horses ran or worked between 12/1/09 and 2/6/10, or are entered in races in Feb [NB: 2 of these were eased in their last race]. Many of these are among his better horses and are probably being sold for racing. Some may have been sold as broodmares. But some may have gone, um, elsewhere.

    This leaves approximately 119 horses who ran between 12/1/08 and 11/30/09 that are currently unaccounted for.

    *This number includes the named horses sold by Gill for $1 each to Mark Wedig (as reported by Paulick) and the 6 that someone posting under the name Trainer on the Paulick site said had been rehomed. I'm pretty sure I know who Trainer is, and the horses probably were rehomed. Wedig almost certainly has/had more of Gill's $1 bargains, but there's no way at the moment to know which ones.

    I do have a lead on 2 horses given away by one of Adamo's assistants at PHA last year, but do not have the horses' names. The people who took the horses seem totally legit and I hope to have the horses' names sometime fairly soon.

    I'll add here that of those 108 mentioned above, 11 ran or worked in December and haven't been heard from since.

    Also, I think someone on this thread recently referred to Delahoussaye's alleged use of an electric prodder on a horse at Beulah in 1998. Just thought I'd mention that as far as the law is concerned now, there's nothing alleged about it. The Ohio Court of Appeals upheld his suspension in 2004 and specifically accepted the factual findings from the hearings:

    Summary of Opinion
    Plaintiff Delahoussaye is a licensed race horse owner and trainer, whose license was suspended for possession and use of an electrical speed enhancement device on a horse. In this opinion, the Court of Appeals upholds the suspension. A veterinarian witnessed administration of an electrical shock during training and the plaintiff was found with the instrument in his possession.

    Well its 18 miles from me and my GPS put it in West Grove, and I almost bought a house up the street from it on Glen Hope road and it was listed as West Grove??

    Why is it everything on here is about splitting the proverbial hair. And it may be 4 miles when you know your way across country from FHTC but I don't so its a guess estimate.

    Perfect is just to high a perch. Enjoy the view

    It's Oxford, not West Grove, so if someone wanted to find it, they would be looking in the wrong town. They are nearly 10 miles apart. Sorry if you feel like this is splitting hairs, but it's really not. How about if you told someone trying to find your house the wrong town? Oxford and West Grove don't even have the same zip code, for God's sake.

    Here is the listing for Elk Creek when it was for sale. Please take note of the town:

    You almost bought a house up the road from it and your GPS listed it as West Grove? Time to buy a new GPS. And I am enjoying my view from my high perch, thank you!

    PA towns or boroughs or whatever they call it are all very close and they seem to change frequently depend who you ask! But lets not focus on that..

    His farm is not hard to find, I looked at renting one on the same road

    Directions

    1) From Fair Hill Training Center make a right out of the main entrance (MD 213)

    2) You will cross the PA line (into Lewisville) make a left at the first stop sign.

    3) You are now on PA 472, follow this road (be careful because PA roads twist and turn and fork off) do NOT go straight onto Blake Road.. fork right and follow PA 472

    4) Fork right again following PA 472 (do not go on Hooker Creamery Road)

    5) Go past Twin Ponds Farm on your left (you can see the training track from the road

    6) Follow PA 472 which will make a left turn (do not go straight on Old Forge)

    7) Your next left will be Glen Hope Road

    8) Gills farm is on the left, if you intersect with Hickory Hill Road you've gone too far.

    I need to make this a little clearer as people on other boards are misinterpreting it. A few horses were shipped into the race track a couple of months ago specifically to be PTS. not 20 after he was ruled off. Don't know an exact number.

    Meredith, given the tenor of some of the posting, do you think posting door to door directions to his farm is really a good thing?

    P's right Meredith, be sure to remind everybody to watch out for electric cords in water puddles.
    WOW, Shame on you Pronzini, for insinuating that someone posting here would go to ECR with the intent of harming someone.

    I really don't see a difference between posting an address and posting directions. If folks wanted to go and do something out of line, I'm sure they'd find a way. But if someone really wants to go and buy a horse or two, now they know how to find the place.

    Gill entries 2/6-2/9

    Bank of Dad (Valid Expectations), 5yo gelding, LRL 2/6 (racing canceled)
    Wise Point (Point Given), 4yo colt, PHA, 2/6, 2/9
    Primitive Spirit (Pioneering), 4yo filly,, PHA, 2/6, 2/9
    Girls Do Rule (Peace Rules), 4yo filly, PHA, 2/6, 2/9
    Flying Vee (Halo's Image), 5yo horse, PHA, 2/7
    Sarzana (Chief Seattle), 8yo mare, PHA, 2/8
    Sebastian Cat (Catienus), 5yo gelding, PHA, 2/8
    You're Ready Now (Tiznow), 4yo colt, PHA, 2/8
    Albert's Protege (Albert the Great), 6yo mare, PHA, 2/8
    Bikini (Yes It's True), 4yo filly, PHA 2/8

    No surprises. What stands out to me is that most of them were claimed in the fall of 2009 (the exceptions being Bank of Dad and Sarzana).

    If someone goes to look at horses to buy, give some consideration to Bank of Dad. He's a pretty consistent, productive runner (or at least was last year); and he's been in Gill's barn quite long enough -- since Nov. 2008.

    If the only other option is to put them on a truck to Canada? Absolutely. And I say "only other option" because, in this case, not only are most of the horses Gill casts off really truly broken, he seems to avoid retirement groups like the plague. Yes, sometimes his sounder horses show up on CANTER, but, as I said, I'm referring to the really broken down ones. I'd much rather have them get a dose of pink juice than stand on a truck for hours and hours.

    Sometimes euthanizing a horse is the most ethical, responsible decision someone can make. Even someone like Gill.
