Default Questionable Decision - followed by a Very Good Decision (in retrospect)

I have been WAITING for an off topic day!

Broke up with the boyfriend (I believe the last thread I started was about that!) and contacted an ex who lives in the area. We've kept in touch over the years and occasionally get together just to catch up. We'll call him L. L. invited me over to dinner. In the course of conversation he talks about his long distance girlfriend. I didn't know he had one of those, but clearly (CLEARLY!) this is just platonic catching up between us, so no biggie (are you laughing at me yet?)

The next week L. wants to get together for dinner again. We meet at his place and then head to a restaurant. He drank. We head back to his place and he invites me up to show me a youtube video (keep laughing...). I go up, we watch video, we laugh, and he LUNGES for my face. Slurp slurp slurp. I gather my scattered thoughts, tell myself what a TUUURRIBLE idea this is, push him away, and leave.

    L. texts/voicemails the ensuing few days "omg I'm so embarrassed and ashamed, so sorry, etc etc." I make a half hearted attempted to call him back but we play phone tag. I shrug it off. The following week, L. calls and I pick up.

    A modified transcript:

L: "I want to tell you how sorry I am, and embarrassed, etc etc etc"

    Me: "Don't worry about it."

L: "I also want to say thank you for making that decision."

    Me: "Sure thing."

L: "And the reason I'm thanking you is because long distance girlfriend called and I'm going to be a daddy and we're getting married!!"

    L: "Hello?"

Me: *chokes back laughter* "Umm congratulations?"

    Good decision!

I had an ex call me up, wanting to see me, after we hadn't talked in months. I kept pressing the issue (I wasn't interested in him, so I decided to make him squirm), and eventually it came out that he'd been fighting with his girlfriend. That's right - no mention that she was now an ex, they were still dating. WTH?!?!?

I promptly told him to go back to the hole he crawled out of and never come back out. Oh, and I passed the word along to his girlfriend. Guess what the fight was about? She was pregnant. Last I heard, they got married. Good for them.
There's always more to learn if you're willing.
