I read the title and laughed. Yes!! Completely not worth the money; our freezer has broken down at least three times, and it was very difficult to find a repairman. I have a GE freezer in the baselment that's been chugging along for something like 10 years with NO problems. I would never get another subzero appliance!
Our Subzero is just 9 years old and I love it. Probably not worth the money, yes, but when you are building a house, it just seems like such a minor expense compared to the price of the whole thing! It has had one problem with the icemaker and that got fixed fine, but the guy who came to repair it had to borrow everything -- tools, ladder, etc. -- from us. Which struck me as a bit odd for an appliance repair person. But the warranty covered it and it has been fine since.
Now watch, mine will blow up now that I praised it!
I love my fridge, but I have the free standing ice maker from hell!!!! Only seems to stop making ice as soon as 6 people, or more show up for dinner. Or a cocktail party, or any occasion when you may actually need a large quantity of ice!
My fridge is just (barely) ok --- the mini freezer/ice maker in the center island is from HELL -- and the mini fridge on the corner for cocktail prep is a loon ! All in all I do not recommmend Sub-Zero ~ actually I would now choose a Sears product !!!
I love my SubZero refrigerator. I've put them in my last three homes, and I've never had a problem with any of them. I had the matching cabinet fronts put in the refrigerator in this house, though. The last one had the stainless steel front and the fingerprints drove me nuts. Mechanically I've never had an issue.
