Efforting. For example, radio talk show hosts are constantly saying we are efforting to reach this person.
What has happened to attempting to reach this person?

Unfortunately, there are those who would call you pedantic (or worse -- some kind of Nazi ) for wishing that others would have learned their native language when the opportunity was offered to them, at no cost, as children.

I'm bumping it up because I am highly amused by it and I think more people should see it.

"A lot" is a unit of measure.

But in the original sense- like auctions and such-- it meant a single grouping of like objects to be sold as one.... lot.

So is "a lot" a gathered but unspecified amount of something?

It seems to me that a "sh!t load" is also a unit of measure. It usually refers to things not easily broken into units. Though I'm sure someone could call a flat of eggs (what is that, 36?) a "sh!t load of eggs."

I think a sh!t load and a butt load may be equivalent amounts. A f*ck load is more.

And a "whole sh!t load" is more than simply "a f*ck load."

Have I got this right? Because there will be no "efforting" or "normalcy" or "incent" (a verb), in my world. I like to get things right.

And "a whole mess of trouble" sounds different from "a whole heap of trouble."

The mess concept implies liquid and spreading, maybe some depth, too. You usually aren't sure about that, but are impresssed by what you see on the surface.

But the heap concept is impressive because it's 3-D and above ground. Very visible, maybe towering, but "heap" doesn't necessarily imply tall to me, just big.

See how important this all is?
