Default Who should I breed my mare to?

Her name is green Meadow by Meadowlake. I am in NY. Just wondering... She's open and ready to be in foal. Any NY breds or nice stallions that cross well with her pedigree?

Are you breeding to race or sell? Meadowlake mares have done well with Storm Cat line stallions, producing horses such as Henny Hughes. The market is tough right now, and there isn't much that's commercial in NY. You may be better off going to a horse in PA or not breeding at all this year.

Are you breeding to race yourself? For sales? Hunters? How much do you want to pay?

Purely from a 'clean' (no inbreeding standpoint) I like this hypo mating: http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/fc_di...P4154133318230

Golden Missile, 1995 son of AP Indy. He's at Milfer Farm in Unadilla NY for $7500 LFSN.

They have some other nice stallions. Just me, I wouldn't breed her to Polish Pro as that gives you inbreeding to Raise A Native, something I'm not a fan of. Same goes for Fast Decision, though you can't beat $1500 stud fee and it's only one cross 5sx5d. Take Me Out just has inbreeding on Hail To Reason and Nothirdchance.

I don't know how salable any of those would be. Golden Missile has some successful offspring (black type.)

Call my brother in law at Empire Stud in Hudson (www.empirestud.com). Bertrand is the quintessential horseman - know racing from the top to the bottom, but also understands sport (showing, hunt, etc.) so he could steer you to the right stallion, at the right price, with the right confromation, with the right (key!) disposition, that passes all of hte above on. Empire has a bunch of really nice stallions.

I would do Repent for 5k. He has some good runners and is a gorgeous horse.

Until we know more about what you want to do with the foal (race/sell as a yearling/maybe race, but if not, then keep as a hunter) and your budget, we are all taking stabs in the dark.

Also, how far are you willing to travel with her? Are you willing to leave her for a month to get her covered and checked in foal? If so, then consider Pa. stallions -- They have a great new Pa. bred program going on now and some really nice stallions in the state.
