Default Sam, meet chickens. Chickens: Sam

Since my ankle is still effed up riding is still out of the question. So, of course, the weather is gorgeous

Feeling sorry for myself, I took Sam for a walk last night so he could feast on my (overgrown) lawn.

As we neared the veggie garden we surprised the chickens who had been busily spreading my compost for me and didn't notice the arrival of 1300# of horse.

When they did see us, they flew off like a covey of quail.
Well...okay...a fat, klutzy covey of quail that do not fly well.
Not much is funnier than a hen trying to take flight.

Sam was nonplussed. He is (Lord love him)apparently one of those horses who startles in place.
Took a good look, then went back to more important things - i.e. clover.

The chickens fled to their yard, except for one poor soul who get separated from the flock.
She wandered in circles bawking her distress until I rounded her up - still leading Sam - and shooed her in the direction of the others.

So, in spite of not being able to ride, I managed to amuse myself & make Sam a happy guy.

You may now return to your regular programming....

Very funny, especially the description of chickens trying to take flight. I have a big Brahma hen that cannot fly at all, and will just run and skip while flapping her wings. My leghorns on the other hand...those white devils can and do fly...right into the trees and over fences. Dummies just can't figure out on how to fly back...

    Ah chickens. Love em.

I don't know which it is...

Sam is very good for you... or you are very good for Sam.

    Or just both.

3dog - maybe you can train the sheep to drive?
Can you tell w/o riding I am getting very creative thinking up ways to have fun...

Marcella - these hens were the best investment I ever made. $21 for 5 of them, Amusement Value: priceless

    Hey PP!
I see you are working WEG this year.
I am going to try like He** to get there - Sam's breeder will be there w/her son & stallion who just tied for 7th in Geneva.
If I can't make it do you think you could get a chance to give her a hug from me?
