Yes, I know that are Peeps are pretty much available at every holiday, but IMHO there is nothing like an Easter Peep. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/yes.gif

I broke out the Peeps I bought on clearance last year and took them to the barn today. I was not at this barn last year and I was saddened to realize that there are many uneducated Peep people out there.

Only Jen22 and I knew the proper Peep etiquette. I offered a Peep to every owner and horse I came across. I was aghasted to see owners offer Peeps tail/feet first and full of sadness to see horses spit them out. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

One owner did express her love of peeps and ate a few, but Rothina was the only horse who ate them. She, of course was thrilled that no one else liked them, because that means more for her, but Peeps are meant for sharing.

So now her treat bucket is full of Peeps and I am a little uneasy that I kinda smashed them in there willy-nilly, which bring me to my Peep etiquette question: is it ok to smash them into a treat bucket? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_confused.gif

    So funny,
I thought you were talking about the little peeper frogs that start coming out in the spring. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif

Well, I am new to the whole Peeps thing, but I did find some heart-shaped ones on Valentine's Day, so I took them out to the barn with me, just to see what would happen. 3 of the 4 horses gobbled them right down, the 4th is kind of a treat snob and spit it out!! (Of course it was promptly eaten off the ground by one of the others who has no manners. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif) I personally don't like to eat them, too much sugar, but the horses have a sweet tooth for sure. With the heart-shaped ones you don't have to worry about head or tail first I guess. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

I did buy the white heart-shaped Peeps, but had a choice of getting red ones. However, I envisioned what sort of mayhem would occur should the horses' owner come home after they ate red Peeps and she saw red slobber on their faces.... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...s/icon_eek.gif

I noticed at Meijers there are many colors of Peeps, but I would think the yellow ones are the traditional, right?? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...on_biggrin.gif

Yay, I love that someone else knows of the wonder and joy that is Meijers http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...icon_smile.gif

I will have to try the Peeps as horse treat. It certainly wouldn't be the oddest thing my guys have eaten http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif

I did see stuffed Peeps toys at CVS the other day...

Did you forget to open the package and let them sit on the cabinet for 2-3 days so they would get stale first?

Am I the only one who only likes peeps after they get stale and chewy?

Ugh, I hate the marshmallow peep things...
Although Spring Peepers might taste good, but aren't they small? Frogs are too cute to eat anyway!

I can't even get my horse to eat a peppermint, I can only imagine what he'd do with a Peep!!

But at first I thought you were talking about real peep peeps! Ack, you feed CHICKENS to your horse??? http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...milies/lol.gif

I think the original yellow ones taste best, but I like buying blue ones too. I absolutely prefer them stale, and immediately stab all boxes with a scissors and let them sit a few days before eating! I always bite their little heads off first - never eat them tail first. I haven't actually offered any to my horse. She has her peppermints and I don't think she'd be too happy with the consistency of a Peep. I could be wrong..
She wasn't running away with me, I just couldn't stop her!

Hmm, never thought about that! My DD likes them fresh, anything resembling a marshmellow she'll eat!! I won't eat them, too sweet. If it's that sweet, it should be chocolate as far as I'm concerned. Why spend my calories any other way? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif

I gave the horses fresh heart shaped Peeps. They didn't seem to mind, gobbled them right down - well, except the one treat snob who spit it out. But I think some Easter Peeps are definitely in order for the barn. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...icon_smile.gif

If you can't stand the wait to let them get stale: put peeps in microwave for 6 seconds (they'll blow up), open door and put immediately in freezer for about 5 minutes. Voila! The stalest/crunchiest peeps you've ever seen. Delectable.

OF COURSE they need to be stale first. However, I have noticed that some horses prefer them "fresh." Chaqu'un a son gout.

NEW for this year: orange cream egg peeps! How exciting.

Personally, as a traditionalist, I prefer the white or yellow peeps for moi meme.

Last year Target sold the baskets that were peep shaped. I of course, bought the yellow chick, I bought the lavendar one for my parents to match their decor. Because these things are important (I believe they will be doing an entire segment on HGTV about decorating with peeps...).

Now you can get stuffed animal peeps. Better and better.

Does anyone worry about horsie cavities? Just a little insight in to Need4speed's brain, the minutia of peep cavities in horsie mouths bother me. How will I explain it to my babies dentist? <hanging head> "Yes sir, I put them to bed sucking on a peep", "No sir, I didn't understand the ramifications of my actions", "Yes sir, I do feel like a bad horsie parent now", "Of course I'll do better"....

But of course, their sad, sad eyes, and wistful expressions will again send me sailing to the aisles of peeps....Maybe one of those natural boar bristle hair brushes will make a good tooth brush.... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c.../icon_wink.gif
