I have two.
First: National Horse Show at MSG in NY in 1975. Unloading Stranger on the street corner in front of the Penn Station entrance and having a heroin-hazed hooker come up to Stranger, throw her arms around his neck and say, "Pretty horsey!" We had to peel her off.

Second: Sitting in the bleachers at Keswick with my friend Barb & our trainer, JT, trying to decide who would win the first annual "space off." Everytime Barb and I got to the ring for a class, we'd forgotten a stick, to do our boots, to tighten our girth...you get the idea. Just as we decided it was a tie, we left the bleachers and I left my purse and car keys behind. Guess who won?

This is fun...make that three!

At the same Keswick show, we were on the way out to dinner and my buddy, Bob, wanted to tell me something. I was ahead of him so he grabbed the back pocket of my very-well-broken-in corduroys to get my attention...and pulled off the entire back side of my cords! I hope I had cute undies on, but I don't remember.

Old Washington Indoor...Replacing GM's coffee table hunt whip with a rather disgusting, startlingly pink purchase from The Pleasure Chest moments before the top hatted tack room judges examined otherwise beautifully appointed, velvet draped tack room with G.M..None of them blinked an eye. My best memories from the shows are the hours spent with good friends. Card games that last well into the night. Making up goofy dances and hand motions to whatever song happens to be the current craze. Making up a new song for our summer camp each year. And of course the wonderful jokes where any one of us can mention one phrase and the whole barn rolls on the floor laughing.

Alot of those moments recently have come from the "blonde moments" my little sister tends to have. 2 of the best are from the East Coast Championship Show in Virginia. One of the off days, my dad took a group of girls to tour nearby VMI. He gave them a good 45 minute driving tour, telling little historical facts like he tends to do, and finally, in the car on the way back to the show, Caroline pipes up, as if she's about to reveal an important bit of information, and says, completely seriously and sincerely, "Hey guys, I know what VMI stands for." The whole car cracked up and that story gets retold quite a bit.

Later when the girls were making fun of her, my trainer showed her how to hold her middle three fingers up and say, "Read between the lines." Well, later Caroline gets tired of being teased and holds up four fingers and says, "Read between the lines." Everyone laughs. Then she holds up 2. Then she holds up 3 but holds her hand backwards. The NEXT DAY she finally understands what the gesture means and finally gets it right. That's another often repeated little tale.

Our first show of the season (High School Eq team) was at this little godforsaken town, and there was only one hotel in the area. The hotel in question was a 1930's rennovated place - but still in rather odd condition (think bright green and yellow - and rooms with paisely). Well they were overbooked, but I needed a room. I ended up staying with a roomate - but guess where I was placed ..... IN A CLOSET ! Not a big walk in closet..but a closet only big enough to fit a cot in and NOTHING else.

We now all joke about how "I came out of the closet" at this show.

i will always associate ox ridge with the mud. I remember the school bus bringing people in and out and hank hulick being at the bottom of the bus steps upon arrival.

I remember the maclay finals, 1985 they were about to announce the final stand by list and stand by me was playing.

When manchester was just grass.

Hunt cap's train.

The ostrichs at devon that jumped out of the ring.

The boot polish guy at harrisburg that is still there and the tractor exhaust that nearly kills you in the indoor.

The night of the tropical storm at wef that ripped all the tents.

LOL! Of course it was Mikey!...one more: One got used to seeing Seaweed doing everything from gateman to frying eggs in the food tent..but once, Kevin Maloney and I went to some park in Old Town Alexandria, nothing to do with horses, and decided to rent one of those little Swan Boats at the lake. Guess who was behind the counter??!!!!
