THANK YOU! I am shocked at how many people use "loose" where they should really be using "lose." It would be one thing if they were kids, but these are adults who I'd assume have real jobs and I cannot imagine how they get by making mistakes with such basic words.
Ahhh!! Poor grammar and spelling drives me nuts! May I add "Ferrier" to the list? and "Lounging" instead of lunging? ARGH! My favorite of course is yours, you're, your, "ur", or their and there.
I am definitely not perfect myself, but the above and others listed are pretty simple, really.
While we are discussing pet peeves, mine is seeing 'defiantly' when it is clear the word someone meant to use is 'definitely'. For those of you who are typing 'defiantly' when you mean to indicate something is indubitably true, that means you are defying the rules of spelling and proper use of the English language. That definitely (as in surely, for sure, etc) means you need to improve your grasp of the English language and how to speak it and write it. I agree with Murphyluv's comment above also, plus the various other contributions. One more that drives me nuts is people using the word 'laying down' when they mean 'lying down', or 'lay down' not 'lie down' when commanding a dog for example.
