I keep hay in my barn and I'm too afraid to keep a heater running in order to keep my tack perfect because I'm afraid of a barn fire. Therefore, in my Oregon barn, my tack just keeps molding. It's driving me crazy. I put DampRid moisture absorbent in the tack room, but the constant rain proves too much. It can grow mold overnight. The house is too far from the barn, and the tack did no better staying in the trailer tack room. What to do?
If you have electricity in there, plug in a big dehumidifier. Works like a charm.
I used to live in a basement apartment with a huge, carpeted walk in closet, and our closet floor would always be damp. It was disgusting.
We got a dehumidifier, and that thing filled up with water so quickly that we had to empty the tank almost every day. It kept our closet nice and dry though, and got rid of the moldy smell.
