A friends horse had an accident of some sort this evening. He tore part of his hoof off, hind leg, from the quarter around and some of the frog. It was hanging there and the sensitive laminae was exposed.

Had both farrier and vet out, patched him up. The vet refused to give her antibiotics for him. I am just speechless about this. This seems to be a big problem in the area with our vets. They do not want to treat aggressively at all. She is calling other vets tomorrow.

My question is what type of antibiotics are good for this type of injury?

My mare last year had a bad injury to her hoof and did not recieve strong enough antibiotics. I do not fully trust the vets opinions and would like to hear from previous experience to make sure it is treated right.
