Default Reckless - The Horse that Was the Pride of the Marines

A video tribute to Reckless - a horse that was made an honorary sergeant after her service in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4KCeiVJ9Y4

Reckless was a race bred mare, sired by a Korean stallion and out of a Japanese mare. She was purchased to help the Marines during the Korean war, and was soon adopted by the men as a mascot. They would load her down with shells, give her a pat on the rump, and off she'd go to the cannons, where she'd get a peppermint, and be sent back for another load the same way. She was not only made honorary sargeant when she was brought back to the States, but received the Purple Heart as well.

Thanks! Sent the link to my trainer, who served in the Marines for several years.
It's 2015. Do you know where your old horse is?

God bless her little heart! What a little beauty she was. She surely deserved her stripes and medal. Kudos to her friends for bringing her back to the States to live out her life. It's what true friends DO for each other.

If you read Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover you will find lots of heart warming, tear jerking stories like this and more. There is one very like this one (if not the same) as this - 'cept I can't recall it that well.

What a great video! More special because my father served three tours in Korea. I'll have to ask him if he ever met Reckless. Thanks for posting!
