I'm trying to find places to cross country school that is close to Ithaca, NY (reasonably-within in 2-2.5 hours max haul)?
I *think* that GVDRC has a schooling day at some point in the late spring/early summer, but I want to school a little more than that. I'm looking for something with decent Novice jumps and, if I can dream, maybe some Training level jumps.
I've been told there are some decent hunter paces in the area, so even finding out if I can school those courses would be great.
I don't want my only XC school to be at Denny's in March and August this season, especially since I'm trying to make the move up and may try to event my mare as well (Denny, you're awesome, but I need a few more hours than that to be fair to both my horses).
It would only be frosting on the cake if there were any reasonably close event trainers, but I might be pushing it asking for that.
Thank you both I'm starting to have a bit of hope for schooling this season.
Now to find an instructor that will head out to Larkin with me. I might be able to convince my SJ instructor (I don't have an eventing specific instructor right now).
Do the hunter paces run on school-able courses? I am interested in trying a hunter pace, but how my horse will react is sort of up in the air.
If the Hunter Pace will allow you to go out alone, its an awesome way to XC school. If not, grab a partner (even a non-jumping one) and rock and roll. Here in MA, Myopia's HP is an awesome one... lots of jumps and places to gallop. You just have to forget getting a ribbon... but winning an HP is just luck anyway...
Oo, never thought about the potential they might let me jump alone!
Sounds worth asking. I prefer the idea of preserving his ability to jump without a lead and since he's an ex-racehorse, I'm not sure what a group gallop would do
Hey I live in Rochester, about an hour from Ithaca. There are GVRDC schoolings and also a few clinics. There is one in May with Bobby Costello that is held a Stuart, which is really awesome because there are pretty much never any open schoolings at Stuart.
