Sadly, I don't even think that's ever happened in any animal cruelty case, at least not in large numbers. There's a lot of politics behind it too.

I'm glad they got some jail time, but six months isn't nearly enough.

Sadly, due to the over-crowding in CA's jails, I bet they don't even serve the full six months...

Have you even been in jail? I'll bet if I was to serve time, six months would seem like an eternity. I can't imagine two weeks away from my family and pets. Not that they don't deserve more time, but if they've never been in jail before it'll certainly be punishment.

First of all, how did these people come to own 100 horses? I'm glad this is a small victory for these horses. Hopefully this case can set a precedent for other similar cases.

In my area a woman had 14 BLM Mustangs how I don't know but she lived in the bay area about 3 1/2 hours drive. The guy that worked on her little ranch that took care of the horses left, she never hired a replacement. The horses had a stream for water and grass to eat but when winter came so did the grass. The neighbors kept calling animal control because the horses kept getting skinner and skinner nothing was done. The neighbors started feeding them but some got stuck in the mud, they had to pull them out with a tractor. They called the local newspaper, radio and Sacramento news stations and finally shamed the animal control into action. Long story short the horses found homes and the woman got 3 years in prison and is still in, no early release. There was a total outrage in our little towns and animal control never fully recovered from the shame. Our animal control is being taken over by a local rescue!!!!!!

I think that's because BLM mustangs are considered gov't property and it becomes a federal crime. I could be wrong though...
