Unhappy NEWS: Out-of-Control Horse-Drawn Carriage in Mesa--Man Dragged

    http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news...iage-1-23-2010

A man is seriously injured and two of his horses were hurt after a stage-coach accident near Val Vista and McDowell Saturday.

Dave Johnson of Mesa Fire says that a 75-year-old man hitched four horses to a carriage and was heading out for a ride when a barking dog spooked the horses.

The front two horses took off running and the back two horses stumbled and were dragged, along with the stage coach, down the street for about 75 feet.

The elderly man received serious road rash injuries, some going down to the bone, says Johnson. He was transported to Banner Desert.

A motorcycle driver was also injured when he had to lay down his motorcycle in an attempt to get out of the way of the out-of-control stage coach.

The back two horses also received road rash, but should be fine.

Such a shame for the driver and the two wheel horses. (that's what the back two are called?) Road rash hurts like an SOB and usually leaves scars.

Although I had to read the title a time or two before figuring it out. I thought it meant a man was dragging a horse carriage and went out of control, then was thinking, "How out of control can a person-pulled carriage get?"

A few weeks ago in old town Sacramento a drunk driving woman hit the horse drawn carriage which is a fixture in this area from behind. Threw the passengers and driver out, no serious injuries and the horse took off. He went to his safe place where he is harnessed and had a few cuts on his legs. The carriage was totaled, amazing no one was killed. They finally found the woman a few days later and she was arrested, many charges against her.
