or, why living in FL has it's downside...

Of course, in the midst of planning to leave for 12 days I now have to ALSO make sure I have a contingency plan if Miss Isabell decides to keep on her path and come here... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...n_rolleyes.gif

I'm watching it closely too. I have a foal on Chincoteague Island, I'm hoping it doesn't come up the coast. I'm hoping it dies out soon! But that is one strong storm.

Flight Check, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. SGray, that is a really cool website. I checked it and saw to my relief that a category 4 hurricane just missed Taipei, where my brother lives.

We are just starting the nail-biting down here in S.FL. Hate this time of year, but this is when we pay for those incredible winters!

Ahh I hate this time of year. Nothing like checking the weather 4x's a day to see where the darn thing is heading.

I had a premonition that we would have a large storm this year. http://chronicleforums.com/images/cu...ilies/sigh.gif Time to go purchase hospital bracelets to label my horses with. To those of you that face the hurricane dilemma like myself, do you choose to put your horses in or out? I have always been torn on this decision, but now that I board at a cement barn I think I am going to leave them in. I had serious doubts about a barn I used to keep them at that wobbled with a stiff breeze...

In our close (sufficated) south Florida area it is best to keep them in as long as the barn is safe. I would leave them out if I had 100 acre turnout with nothing around. Our barn is cement also & nothing is moving it, the roof on the other hand will go but it is built to go all at once. So in case of bad weather mine are staying in wrapped in bubble wrap, tons of hay & numerous id's.

    oh, joy, now she's a 5.

IF she goes north or south of us, we'll stay put - our barn is concrete block built to hurricane codes of 165mph winds, and I can close it up entirely so that no debris can fly in.

If it's going to hit within xmiles of us, we evacuate. I've notified the boarders, made reservations further inland/north, bought xtra feed and hay, and all that fun stuff.

Go away, little hurricane, go away.

We are in SC and travelled through Floyd. I don't want to have to do anything like that again. If it turns towards us I will leave my guy out, his barn has alot of steel rafters and beams. His pasture is wide open. I don't want it to turn this way, they just started construction on our house. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_c...s/icon_eek.gif
I'm so busy.....I don't know if I found a rope or lost my horse.

Alright put your big girl panties on and deal with it!

Remember, it's not necessarily the wind you need to worry about, it's the flooding.

Wow that is a BIG storm. FL hasn't seen that since Andrew!

I'd want mine in if the barn was safe. Too much flying debris.

Earthquakes and Hurricanes scare me to pieces. I'll take my chances on a tornado (small path of destruction) versus an earthquake or a hurricane!

    Good luck everyone!

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

One month ago, this brilliant poster booked an oceanfront room for five nights in North Myrtle Beach...starting next Wednesday. Oh well, I guess it's time to improvise a Plan B.
