Default New Website for Rising Star Farm

I'm so excited to finally "unveil" the completely new Rising Star Farm website. Webmaster Pam Norton has done a fabulous job in my opinion!

It's still a work in progress (not all of the pages are complete - and some information may need to be cleaned up). However, I couldn't wait to share and would love constructive feedback!

I like the minimalist approach. A visitor can make a very quick skim and stop at links to see info on individuals.

The point size is a skeech too small, especially since you are lean on text (which is good).

Do you have a link to your stallion contract? MO like to review those.

    Good job.

    Thanks!

There is a link to every stallion contract on the stallion overview page and on each stallion's page.

I like it! I love the background!

A tiny bit difficult to read--maybe the point size is not the problem- perhaps it is the boldness. We had this trouble on our site. ( I know it is the background, but I love it too much...as you do as well) We then realized that it read differently on different computers.

Can you add a "News" section? I know that we all use Facebook, etc., but I think that your readers will look forward to catching up and it will give you an opportunity to archive as you go along. It will bring you "return visitors" which is what you want.

You are going to want a counter- email me about this- I can set you up with a super-dooper one gratis that you will be thrilled with (and become addicted to).

I will take that 2009 Concorde B foal......

    Looks great Ronda.

(Pssst, the REAL Portia is also approved for breeding by the GOV. We got that done when she was 3. And her second foal, Interlaken, was also the BWP Texas site champion with an 82, in 2008. Not that I'm proud of her and her kids or anything. )

Thanks Michele - please send me the link to the counter: ronda@risingstarfarm.net

I'll give you a good deal on Jet Set RSF

Thanks Jennifer - I'll be sure to add that info. Portia is doing really well by the way

Regarding a News Section - I am not going to be maintaining the site myself anymore, so, I want to encourage people to subscribe to my email newsletter (on the contact page - I do send that out myself).

The website is definitely weird in Firefox - it's fine in Safari and IE. So, this will be one thing that will need to be addressed.

Thank you for comments and suggestions - please do keep them coming!

    Oh, my!

It is completely different on IE!

Definitely ask Pam to adjust it in such a way that the Foxfire is in line with the IE. Very nice...and kind to my aging eyes!

Looks nice Rhonda. I love a "clean" website. I can't stand looking through a "messy" one with tons of text I don't really want to read. I like how you have formatted it -- nice and to the point with good information that "one" would be interested in. Easy to navigate.

I am in the process of updating both of mine too -- they will be similar in format.

Ditto on the Firefox comments. I use only Firefox on the home PC, and the background is too dark and overpowering and the text too light and hard to read. I took a peek at the source code and see she has specified Papyrus and Monotype Corsiva - those fonts are not particularly good for web viewing unless against a plain background of contrasting color. The text looked better on the individual stallion pages, though, since it was on a white background. You might want to use Verdana on the pages with the darker background - it was designed specifically for the web. You also might want to lighten the darkish grey-blue background. Navigation looked good.

Very nice and CLEAN! Great job.

One of my new year’s resolutions is to completely redo my website with a professionals help. I started mine 8 years ago and did it all on my own, being self-taught. So it really is time for a more professional/CLEAN look.

You have inspired me to get off my arse and make an appointment.

I like your website very much. Very clean and easy to navigate. I particularly like the fact that all the stallions are on one page, with more in-depth information a click away. Makes it easy to compare and contrast which stallion would be a good fit for a particular mare.

Beautiful website! Here are my initial thoughts: The stallion picture of Figaro on the main stallion page isn't my favorite of him. I would recommend having a flashier, more "stallion-like presence" picture on that main stallion page to catch the reader's eyes. I LOVE the broodmare page! Sales page has beautiful pictures. Wonderful site!

I'm looking at it through Explorer. Have not looked at it with Foxfire.

I really like the links to the horses in the pedigrees.

Great job on presenting the stallion performance data on Cielo B.
