Sidesaddle in the movies
Ho Hum...
I am snowed in again, so I have decided to update my Netflix. I want to compile a list of sidesaddle in the movies (I love to look at the habits, accurate or not).
I have so far:
Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life
Mame - with Ms. Ball, such a funny scene!
The Princess Diaries (the first sequel I think)
Shakespeare in Love
What does the infinite wisdom of the board say?

Not a huge Gone With The Wind fan, but I think the scene with Scarlett's daughter, Bonnie Blue, has the kid on a sidesaddle. Been a long time since I saw the movie, but seems like there were sidesaddles in it, because that is how "ladies" rode.
Some of the BBC productions have sidesaddle riders, but can't put my finger on the names.

The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing. Opening credits. Watch for the editing error!
Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell.
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.
Used to be Beasmom. She's retired. Time for a new name!

Tombstone with Dana Delany. I knew the lady who taught her to ride aside, even!

Really? The one scene with the fake leg bouncing around is so obvious I just figured she wasn't actually riding aside at all in that movie. But maybe that was a stuntwoman who rode that part?

I don't remember seeing that, but i haven't seen the movie in years. I did recognize the saddle she rode in during the picnic scene, though, as it belonged to the instructor. she said she was a nice woman who was very willing to learn.

Flambards was a series on PBS. *LOTS* of sidesaddle riding by an actress who took lessons from the queen's sidesaddle trainer. At one point she mounts aside from the ground, properly, which is a bit of an athletic feat!

"The Great Train Robbery" from 1978 with Sean Connery and David Sutherland.
Period riding scene in Phoenix Park. All women were side-saddle. I got to work on that part of the movie

You can watch The First Great Train Robbery (1979) for free here http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi10092569/ The sidesaddle scene (which is lovely!) is between the second and third commercial breaks.
It is amazing what you can find online!
