    Default Donnerhall semen?

Does anyone knows if Donnerhall is still available by frozen semen? If so any idea of his price or its quality? Must have been frozen a while back...

I might be wrong, but from what I recall, unless you ran it across the barn aisle, it didn't "keep well" even cooled and it didn't freeze, especially as he got older?

It's VERY bad quality. It runs about $6000 US if you can even find it, and it would truely be a miricle to get a frozen pregnancy with it... sadly. I had investigated this several years ago. Such a shame.

I'm not sure that it really is "such a shame". He left behind many sons that exceeded him in quality of gaits and conformation. Donnerhall was clearly one of the most influential stallions but I think we've moved on to bigger and better.

That being said- you can still get the semen if you look carefully... And I heard its dreadful quality.

I've never heard of a pregnancy from it. I researched it a couple years ago... but heard nothing positive of the semen.

Save your money. Donnerhall frozen is basically worthless.

Conversely, his sire's frozen works. Not sure if there is much left, though, and if so, the deal used to be that you had to agree to sell your foal to the agent if he wanted it.

???? I don't understand? Why would the mare owner want to pay for this semen, mare care etc....just to have to foal taken away???? or chance it.

Don't know anything about Donnerhall's semen but grandson of his, Don Aqui who's Hanovarian licensed, stands in Scotland and is available with chilled semen. Heard that it's very good quality. Don't know where you're based. Believe he's at Morayfirth Stud.

Depending on how badly you want a foal from him, "sperm injection" can be an option, which is offered from Colorado State.

Also, with ICSI, many many attempts and/or foals can be produced from a single frozen straw.

You only paid for the semen if the agent didn't want your foal.

There is a stallion that resulted from one of these breedings currently attending the 30 day stallion test at Silver Creek Farms - Don De Marco.

re: Donnervetter.... and it used to be that the agent paid a pretty fair price for the foal if he exercised his right of first refusal.

Yeah - but it still needs to be good enough to swim...

I'm sure that out of the millions of sperm frozen in a single dose, they'd be able to find a few "swimmers"! And from what I understand, when using sperm injection, the ability to swim is not nearly as critical. That's a major aspect of the advantage!

Yes, it needs to be alive, and (hopefully) morphologically normal, but it does not need to swim for ICSI
