Cool Post a link to an adoptable animal from your local shelter or rescue group!!!!

Let's help these babies find homes for the Holidays. Enablers unite!

I am on the BOD of our local animal welfare org. We work closely with the Ouachita Parish Shelter, our public pound. They took in over 9,000 animals last year and nearly 7,000 were euthanized because there are just not enough homes to go around.

So please ADOPT - don't shop when in the market for a new pet. Spread the word about adoption. All the profiles on petfinder now have a option where you can 'share on facebook'. I post a new adoptable pet on my FB page every day. And always spay & neuter your pets!

This is not a normal rescue- but a prison training program. They get most of the dogs from rescues and then the inmates train them for ~3 months until their basic obedience is down and then they adopt them out. We got our dog from here and she is the THE BEST!

This is one of my little foster kittens, he's way too much fun and cute too. I have 3 here at my house. They belong to Forgotten Cats www.forgottencats.org and they have tons of barn cats too if you are anywhere in the south NJ, DE, southeast PA, northeast, MD area. They deliver, get your crates ready!

    Default Arizona German Shepherds

This is the longest listed dog for Southwest GSD rescue. They only adopt in Arizona, so bear that in mind:

    http://www.swgermanshepherdrescue.co...DUCHESS_II.HTM

She's working lines and has some behavioral issues. NO KIDS.

For the right person, she'd make a great dog. And they're willing to wait for that right match.

    They have other dogs too:

    Great ideal OP!
Last night one of the local statins ran a feature on the pound here in savannah where a cute little springer spaniel waited on death row. How can all the mixed breeds get rehomed when the purebreds cannot? A lot of them given up by people who have lost their jobs and can no longer afford pets when they have had their houses foreclosed on and have moved to apts or in with relatives.

Our pound kills after 5 days.

My mother adopted Lucy from http://www.kindredspiritswis.org/ over the weekend, and is very pleased with her! We found KSAN great to work with, and also met this lovely kitty http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/dis...petid=14299738 (and many more) while we were there. Lexi was very sweet, big, soft, and cuddly, and had some neat seal brown patches near her ears that don't show up well in the photos.

Cecilia at KSAN was awesome, very knowledgeable and honest about what sorts of situations she felt each kitty would do well in, and seemed very reasonable about her expectations. And the adoption fees were very modest - only $25 for the adult kitties or $35 for kittens.

I think she had one kitten left, and lots of beautiful and cuddly adult kitties. Great setup with several indoor areas, and a big carefully fenced in outdoor play area too. Very cool.

    Thanks!

Ours kills after 7 for animal control dogs/cats. The can and often do euth immediately owner surrendered pets.

Then we have jerks who set up on the side of the road in parking lots not even 1 mile from the shelter selling freaking puppies! I wrote a Letter to the Editor in our local newspaper about it this week. Bastards!!!!!

My group was able to step and get 4 horses to rescue or the shelter would have "put a bullet in their heads". They were young, nice albeit thin horses who ended up at the Parish shelter.

Not sure why the Marion county shelter only has three dogs listed this week:

These two girls have been waiting for their new homes for quite a while. I interacted with both of them through the fence of their runs and they seem sweet, sweet, sweet.

    Kittens!

I'm pretty sure this little guy was fostered by one of my classmates - I would have put up one of the ones I fostered myself, but thankfully I think they've all (all 6 of them!) found homes by now...

Yes, they definitely get cute dogs. Even better is that once they are through the program they are cute, well trained dogs!

It's a great program b/c not only are you adopting a dog that was having trouble finding a home before going into the program, but you are supporting the rehab of a prisoner. The recidivism rate of the prisoners in the dog training program is <10% vs. > 50% for the general inmate population. And they consider any offender except animal/ child abusers and arsonists- they have a lot of murders in the program.

We have a number of friends who have adopted dogs or sent their dogs in for training and they have all been thrilled with the results.

Sorry- just had to gush since I'm such a fan of the program.

Oh and they will adopt out of state if you see a dog you really like. They even take training requests for certain habits/ tricks.

this cat rescue organization comes to a pet store near my apartment occasionally... very dangerous! My current apartment doesn't allow pets, which is part of the reason I need to move... I miss having a cat.
