    Default Your favorite riding/barn jacket?

What's your favorite riding jacket. Not a show coat, but just a light to medium weight jacket to ride in.

I have an Ariat coat that I love. It's pretty warm but very breathable--I run in it on cold days. It's kind of like this one, except olive colored.

My only quibble it that it's not waterproof. It's quite flattering and doesn't pick up barn debris.

i have two, a tailored sportsman jacket that's a dark olive/khaki nylon and black, and a brown quilted jacket from goode rider that's down lined though not terribly thick (i live in ca) and has a fur lined hood that i love. *goes to look for pix*

lol that's not my horse, and it's not my saddle either - this was at my ex bf's dad's ranch in texas. here's the goode rider jacket. i love it.

The winter jacket I use on our coldest days is: http://www.thenorthface.com/webapp/w...ariationId=M32

I usually wear this jacket underneath to block the wind or on the more mild days I will wear it alone:
    http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/...=&cm_vc=Search

When I ride, I warm up with the first jacket on and then usually 10 minutes into the ride take it off and just wear the Apex and whatever other layers I have on. It's super lightweight and no one believes me that I'm as warm as I say I am. I'm such a wimp in the cold weather though, so investing in good jackets is worth it to me.

I hate riding in jackets...I always feel constricted so I try to get away with riding in long sleeves and an Addidas down vest. However if its wet out I have a nice Northface shell that I usually layer as needed.

I have a blue/pink plaid(not as bad as it sounds!) BB Dakota jacket that I retired to a barn jacket after it began pilling. It's perfect for keeping me warm, but light weight enough to not be annoying. It's also held up surprisingly well to all the abuse I put it through, and the horsey stains come out after every wash. I really wish I could find another one, but they retired the style =(

Oh dear! I shouldn't have asked. I recently got a pair of the denim Goode Rider breeches and I LOVE them. Now the jackets! They are super cute. Thanks for sharing.

I can't find the tailored sportsman jacket online so far. Just keep coming up with show coats.

http://www.doversaddlery.com/product...zmap=KB-Q40183 (mine is in plum but I like this color too)

Hasn't seen a lot of use in the last few years (riding less and haven't been that cold!)

I have Ariat & Mountain Horse jackets that are fitted and made from the same material as the North Face ones.

I have a Mountain Horse coat that I just got that is the first actual coat I would consider riding in... it's super warm and it is bulky, but the way it's cut makes it easier to move around in.

I have a Kerrits zip-neck pullover that is really warm and comfortable, I wear that in most in-between weather, and then add a warm vest when I want to ride and it's colder.

I use the windproof fleece Marinac jacket from Land's End.

It is lightweight and does an amazing job keeping me warm.

It is a great layering piece: it can go in windy 60 degrees over a long sleeve shirt, or over some other polar fleeces and under a down vest in 19 degrees and windy.

I have worn it and worn it and washed it and washed it and it is still going strong four years later.

I LOVE the Goode Rider brand. I could have this wrong but I've been told that the women who started it originally worked for Levi's or something, but were equestrians frustrated by the lack of great clothing for riding - so they started their own company. I love a lot of what they create, and I definitely love that story.

I absolutely love my Outback Oilskin short coat. It is very wind and weatherproof, although it needs a new coat of duckback every couple years to keep the weatherproofing up. In fact, I wore it during the recent nor'easter for barn chores and to help move cows. After about four hours in the rain I was still dry under the coat. Like another poster, I don't particularly like to ride in a coat, so I wear vests underneath. Dover and Romfh tend to be my favorites.

For the coldest days I layer Under Armor under layers, a long sleave shirt, a sweat shirt, and then a jacket or two....

I have quite an assortment of Kyra K jackets, in various weights and fabrics, and love them all. Their fabrics are all waterproof and breathable, they come in great colors and are very attractive, my only complaint is that I think they are out of business. Although I hear they are back under the name Gersemi.

Anything I buy for riding has to have a 2 way zipper, its essential for me.

What I would really love, when I can afford it, is a Patagonia down sweater though. Its feather light and tissue paper thin but has all the warmth of down, bought one for trainer last Christmas.

I wear North Face, Helly Hanson, REI and Eddie Bauer. I have trouble recommending Eddie Bauer anymore - but they used to have the best.

These companies have good web sites and the selection is enormous. Way better quality than the "horsey" manufacturers and most of them come waterproof. Large selection of goose down, if that's what you prefer.

I also love riding in the North Face Apex Bionice jacket. Very warm, a bit longer in the back than the front, and waterproof. It is enough for the Texas winter.

I have the original mountain horse coat. It's going on it's thirteenth year I think. Looks like hell, stained, missing some buttons, wouldn't wear it out in public, but I will wear it in the barn every winter until it dies.

I just ordered a mountain horse rider jacket for daily winter riding. Hope I like it as much as the original.
