Question DD'd with Equimax...Caterpillar in manure!?!

Hi NTW people (and any others that investigate droppings after worming).

Last night I double dosed with Equimax. The horses are out 24/7 so this morning I checked fresh manure piles and found tape worms and in one ball (smooth all round and still slippery) I found a live caterpillar! It was greyish green and about 1 inch long - curled up about the size of a dime.

I don't have a clue what this is but I know that many of you are very knowledgeable about parasites ... over to you!!!

Was it deep in the poo like it had been pooped out or just ah...taking a munch?

Holy crap!!! No pun intended, although it is a good pun. That is so weird. I'm rather repulsed by what grows/resides in our horses' tummies,

Good to know the worming was effective. Never saw anything like your description of the worm, though. I'd be interested to hear what it is.

It actually sounds like a locust or japanese beetle larvae. Equally nasty IMO. They like to climb up out of the ground into anything warm and inviting.

    Where is that gagging icon?!!

If they looked like a bunch of spaghetti it sounds as if they were roundworms (ascarids). Neighbour's ponies were wormed and I nearly threw up!

Could be a cutworm having a meal or trying to keep warm. They are green fat little worms that curl up when disturbed. They normally live at root or stem level on the ground and eat young vegetation.

If he was still alive after a double dose, I expect he wandered in to the manure from somewhere outside, wouldn't you?

Vineyridge and Eqtrainer have probably solved this mystery - at least they have given me an explaination that doesn't freak me out as much as the notion that these things were in my horses' G.I. tracts!

Any chance that these insects were baled up in my hay? (Please say NO!)
